Anyone open a '99 3F or Millennium recently?

Yeah me neither.

Had a 1997 with dinner at the 3F restaurant so it was bottled a year before Millennium. It was pretty excellent.

Was also walking into a bakery to grab some breakfast this morning and I ran into Armand on the street and he recognized me and started chatting me up... talk about surreal.

Edit for context: by pure coincidence the flat we are renting through AirBnB is two blocks away from 3F.

By pure, you mean "pure"?

Has anyone had tilquin squared recently? How is it doing?

Still detecting a slight rubbery quality that I got on the nose as well as in the finish when doing this one blind. It's minute enough that it doesn't bother me too much. Everything else is tasting phenomenal though. This is incredibly funky with a touch of sesame, lemony brightness and rich finish. There's an almost apricot-like fruitiness that emerges as it warms.

This is supposed to be different from the Scarenbecca (which I've never had) as some old lambic is added before bottling while Scarenbecca is just pure kriek lambic. This was lightly carbonated and had a decent head when I poured but it went away immediately.

Ah, didn't realize they were different beers. I just assumed they decided to do away with the Scarenbecca name and just call it by the name of the actual cherries that were used.

Sounds delicious. Thanks for the heads up.

No one knew until someone decided to ask Hanssens and this is what they said. Definitely delicious!

Spent the better part of 8 hours tonight touring around the various 3F facilities and tasting some great beers. Oude Kriek in 75cl bottles will be on its way to the U.S. shortly. It was the first time they've bottled Oude Kriek in 75cl bottles in at least 5 years.

Foeder/bottle warehouse.

So. Much. Gueuze/Kriek aging.

Sidetracking from the (relatively) disappointing Tilquin Mure, the new Hanssens Schaerbeekse Kriek is delicious. Reminds me a bit of regular 3 Fonteinen Kriek but the cherry taste lingers longer. Not normally a Hanssens fan but this was great and I will try more of their stuff now.

Drinking my first bottle of this and yeah, this is fantastic. Never had anything fresh from Hanssens that was remotely this good. Better than the fresh Drie or Cantillon kriek I've had recently.

With more and more producers making four year lambic blends do you think this will get its own official name? So far we have "golden blend" and "special blend".

Yeah, they picked up Kriek & Gueuze.

Armand wasn't aware of Hop & Spirit / Beeblebrox. Not sure on the Northdown stuff, still yet to see any with a Northdowm sticker on it.

Will be interesting to see what they do with it. Seeing 1/2 price Golden Blends on the shelf at the same store that is doing a Cantillon ballot makes me wonder if there is room to move into the space that Cantillon has here, or if people chase Cantillon because of Cantillon.

I make no apologies for loving me some Balashi.

Never found gueuze down island though.

It's fine for what it is but I haven't had a good craft beer for like a week haha. Found the Oud Beersel at Taste of Belgium restaurant, they had 1/2 off happy hour so it was only $6.25 for a bottle, not a bad deal at all
