Think that’s from the brandy barrels? Recently I’ve realized that I’m not a huge fan of brandy BA anything.

Same - well, specifically apple brandy. I tried AB Derivation when I was at SP and did not like it that much. Have tried some other well-known AB beers, and again, not my favorites.

One I was surprised by recently was Cigar City Cyclopaedia - had small pours at a share, but thoroughly enjoyed.

That's good to know. I have one of those to open and guess I'll make wuntrikpony join me to test out his theory.

Also got in a couple cans of VSOJ, so let's get to drinking.

Wow. I wasn’t expecting all that much from this one but it is way overshooting my expectations here. For 10% it has a good body to it, nice bourbon notes, and all the caramel/raisin notes you love in a good BA barleywine. I’ll be looking for more of this in the future.

Marksy and crew do a great job over there, and while the IPA's typically aren't my thing as a West Coast loving curmudgeon, the consumers massively disagree with me :)

Well now I feel like a dick since you tagged him and I had low expectations, haha. This beer should def get more credit than it currently has.

Side note, why did this get distro to GA of all places but was only 2pp in Chicago? Never quite understood that.

Naw don't feel bad in the slightest, I think every memeber of TB who works in the industry (or is industry adjacent like myself) would much rather hear your honest thoughts about our beers.

Good question regarding distro, but they did have some serious issues with distribution / franchise laws up here in IL. A wide distribution mentality might help reduce the influence the local distributor has over their product. However, that is 100% speculation as I really don't know.

If El Zacaton ever makes it's way out by you ("Mayan" / Mexican spiced stout) definitely give that one a try as it's my favorite beer from Une Ane / Hubbards Cave.

So I got my bottles from a buddy in Chicago who was willing to run around for my needy ass. A really good friend who lives in savannah found some on the shelf and asked me about it and I said to buy it for sure. He’s not a bw fanatic but really enjoyed it. Was just curious why it would hop states like that. I’m in NC and we def didn’t see it here but we got cases and case of Obscure that seemed to miss GA and SC. Distributor laws make my head hurt.

Anyone have this years Sucaba? Haven't had it in 3 years or so. With some of the FW offerings have dropped off a bit over the years, I'm hoping this might be pretty good.
it was alright, not bad at all but not what i remember, tho that could be me more than them. in 2011 fresh abacus knocked my socks off!
