Hi guys.. New to kegging.. I have found myself in a situation where I'm bottlenecked on my brewing at the fermentation stage.. I've made a FC from a small 4-5? cf freezer a buddy donated to the cause. I have an all rounder that takes up all the floor space, so I'm pretty well shut down until the beer finishes.

I have decided I can save the all rounder for beers that are specifically needing pressure fermented, and I've got a 6gl torpedo keg on the way I plan on using, with plans to add another, as I have the floor space for two of them. That way, I can have 2 beers fermenting at the same time or overlapping, so hopefully I can build up a stockpile. Being new to the kegging scene, I've found I have a lot more company as of late...;)

My question is: I'm not necessarily wanting to PF beers in the torpedoes, although I know I can.. How are you guys handling this?

1. throw a spunding on it and forget about it?
2. using a quick disconnect with a blow off tube (worried about clogged post with this one)
3. taking the gas post out and using a tube

Just trying to get a game plan together to be more efficient, and not held up at fermentation. Thx!

Number 1 for me when using a keg as a fermenter. I put a spunding valve on, set to 15 psi, and let er ride. Toward the end, I may increase the spunding valve pressure to 20psi. After 2 weeks, I cold crash with no gas connected for a day or two. I can't remember what the pressure drops to (I should track that better), but I vent the keg down to 12 psi, then attach the gas, then pull a pint and taste.

My basement stays in the mid 60s. I do 4 gallons in a 5 gallon keg and 2.5 gallons in a 3 gallon keg for adequate head space. The kegs I use for pressure fermentation also have floating dip tubes and lower rated prvs (the green ones).

1. Ales ferment fast and they only need temperature control during the fast phase of fermentation, usually only 3 or 4 days. After the ferment has slowed they can finish out at room temperature because they are no longer producing a significant amount of esters.
2. If you have 2 active fermenters with a single controller, you are only controlling one and the other is fermeting wild. You need two refrigeration units with separate controllers to control 2 vessels.

i ferment in an oxebar pretty regularly and i always use the gas post as a blow off tube. it hasnt got clogged yet even though a fair amount of kreusen gets pushed through there.

i squeeze a little over 5 gallons in there and leave only about 3 inches of headspace.

theres a prv just in case . tho i suppose that could clog also and then BOOM.

if you want pressure...try a blue PRV, 10psi, as the spunding valve. You can swap to a red PRV, 25psi, to finish and also carb up.

For a blow off, best to completely remove the post and use a 1/2 silicone tube...no QD or poppet to clog.
