Fact: the South is not a single genre of culture/accent.
There are multiple dialects of the southern accent. Mountain, peach, bama, gulf, delta, methtuckian, vergeenean, and hoiti toitian.

Knowing that, and growing up in and traveling the south, I can't recall anyone every saying they want a coke when they wanted anything other than a Coke. Also, I have met very few southerners that drink Pepsi...

Can we get back to beer already?

Also acceptable in the South, instead of "Coke", is "Co-Cola"

It can get get confusing if you want a different brand of cola-flavored beverage. I.E.: "I'll have me a RC Co-Cola!"

Also, "Orange Coke" (aka: Orange Co-Cola) is probably more popular than the previously mentioned "Grape Coke".

My head is spinning... operator, can I get off the ride now??

Feel free to liberally dole out the berry punches as needed to derail this derail. After all, as long as you get the beverage you are seeking, what difference does it really make when you are standing in front of the pearly gates awaiting St. Peter's approval.

:goat:

I find this to be entertaining. Let the good times roll. When in Rome, do as the Romans.

To at least make this beer related, don't people usually get handed a Yuengling if they order a lager in the Northeast?

That'd make an interesting experiment: go to a non-craft beer bar, try to order a beer in the most vague terms possible, and see what you get.

"Gimme a dark beer."
*Gets Budweiser*

"Gimme an ale."
*Gets Boston Lager*

"Gimme something hoppy."
*Gets Newcastle*

Better make that a diet grape coke. I'm trying to watch my figure.

How 'bout a diet coke with lime? On a more serious note, I finally got the appointment with the specialist for my osteonecrosis, etc. I'm waiting to be told don't drink, don't brew, don't smoke, don't F*** at night & start exsist...er...living...yeah, sure doc. I'm damn sure brewing the mumme' & Burton barleywine so as to finish my second home brewing book!

God damnit, why had this turned into a thread about the various terms for carbonated soft drinks? I came here to read funny stuff about carbonated hard drinks

as a side note: SMWBO reluctantly asked me the other day where the line between enthusiasm and obsession lies with my homebrewing. I told her if she didn't believe I crossed that line a hundred batches ago, I'm not doing it right

Also, I have met very few southerners that drink Pepsi...

And to think that Pepsi was created in New Bern, NC....(used to work there occasionally...neat little town)

Only in Pennsylvania....

What if you actually want a Coca Cola?

Server: What would you like to drink?
Me: A coke.
Server: What kind of Coke?
Me: A coke.
Server: What kind of Coke?
Me: A coke.
Server: What kind of Coke?
Me: A coke.

Isn't that an old Abbott and Costello gag? :D

A Coca-cola (Co-cola)is a Coke brand of cola

Do you want a coke?

Yeah, get me a Co-cola

or

Do yo want a Coke? I have Co-cola and Dr. Pepper.

I'll take a Co-cola.

I've never heard of somebody wanting a Grape Coke or anything like that. It would be more along the lines of "Get me a coke. Grape if they have it. If not get me a Co-cola"

BTW, I didn't grow up here and I don't make the rules, but it is not that hard to grasp and of course, if you ask for a soda, people understand.

Don't really know why this is such a big deal to people...

And...none of this is funny, but really does it matter? Because not much of the supposedly funny **** was funny either.
