Taprooms are doing it, offering more or less the same benefits based on what i just read. It’s a mug club for a bar.

Is this strictly a suburban thing? It sounds like a bizarro loyalty program. Instead of rewarding great customers for their patronage, you have to pay a cover to not be a second class citizen?

One caveat about slashies: there's a ton of them but in general they're definitely not craft centric. It's a lot of old men drinking Tecate and Old Style and buying scratch offs from a Illinois Lotto vending machine.

Additional examples: Danny's Liquors on Western, and Loop Liquors by Forbidden Root.

Crown Liquors in Logan is like a really fancy version too, not unlike Beer Temple, but with less chops

Maybe. Do you have Oberweiss in the city? You can also prepay for an ice cream club.

I'm with trickytunadicky on this one. This is really no different than a mug club: you pay a nominal fee for reduced price merch, drafts on certain days, access to special events and a few freebies.

If the IL Craft Brewers Guild is going to push legislation to let breweries function more like bars, why shouldn't bars employ the same promotions as their direct competitors in the booze-slinging space?

Hm. I hadn't considered that position.

i used to live over there so the only thing i remember about that bar is they got a keg of abraxas a few years ago. they put it up as barrel aged abraxas or vanilla abraxas and nerds all of a sudden converged on the place saying no way is it x, then ordering it and going...hmmm i think this is actually vanilla. it was hilarious reading people debating whether or not something was good and rare or just average solely based on some beer menu error, an error i believe the scum bag owners ran with because they sold out of the keg in a day.

Burger Antics is hosting its 2nd Annual Pints 4 Paws Charity Fundraiser!

On Sunday, June 10th, from Noon till 8pm, we'll be rotating through 30 of the rarest beers we could get our hands on and selling raffle tickets for gift baskets put together by some of our friends including breweries, local artists, and more!

We're working with The Safe Haven Network to help end domestic violence, one beer at a time! Through partnerships with local animal shelters, The SHN finds temporary “safe havens” where domestic violence victims can board their pets while they complete a stay in a domestic violence shelter. They recognize that a victim’s decision to leave an abusive situation begins an incredibly stressful and dangerous period of his or her life. This is the worst time to add on the stress of giving up a beloved pet, or worse, leaving that beloved pet with the abuser, who has likely already threatened or abused the pet as well.

100% of funds raised from the raffle and 30% of beer sales will go to their cause!

We really hope to make a difference in the lives of people dealing with domestic violence, so please Share this event with your friends and stay tuned for updates on beers and raffle items. We look forward to seeing you guys at the event! Thanks!

So dvelcich throws an amazing charity event in June, and if you are remotely local it would be awesome to see you out. I know a bunch of folks from TalkBeer will be in attendance, and based on last year the taplist should be absurd.

Last years taplist is below as a reference point.

we actually spend some time lining up some weird and beautiful collabs and one offs featuring a coffee brett ale, saison/wild collab blend and a sure to be polarizing kombucha beer. guess we'll have to throw at some bar and actually get paid for the kegs.

Thanks. Now I miss Fleur. But I seem to be the only person who liked that beer.

Hey look at the bright side. At least you didn't get thrown out of BUG in front of a huge group of people after setting up AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE EVENT to help soothe someone's ego.

Oh. Oh wow. Oh no...wow.

I don't know this story but I would like to please.
I was there and saw the whole thing (I volunteered for the event and that was my assigned "zone"). I think the dispute could have been handled in a much more professional manner, especially being that the dispute took place right at the entrance to the event. It stopped everyone in their tracks (luckily it was before the GA session started so there were fewer people around) and was uncomfortable to everyone around, including Aquanaut who simply seemed to be doing Chris a favor.

In a nutshell, Chris pulled out of the guild a few days ago and asked for a refund. Something must have happened behind the scenes with regard to Chris being told to not show up to pour at BUG because there was a lot of anger being spewed his way leading to a loud argument that spilled over to security escorting Chris off premises and Aquanaut being threatened to also be kicked out.

As an aside, the sour saison that Chris was pouring for about 15 minutes was delicious.

EDIT: Page 450. How could anyone forget that page?!

In other news More Brewing is releasing three barrel aged beers on Dark Lord Day weekend (Fri,Sat,Sun). I can't wait to see the drama that will ensue with all of our local ****-lords being joined by out of town ****-lords.

I love it. The timing is absolutely not an accident. However, I'm wondering which they expected to happen:

1. "People will be at DLD so there won't be nearly as big of a line!"
2. "Let's release our most hyped beers during one of the largest beer festivals in the GL region so we can get maximum line and maximum exposure!"
