Straight up there is going to be tents and people drinking on the street for 72 hours. I don't see how police don't get involved.

I kinda want to see the chaos unfold though.

Sorry for the awful auto correcting on that post, but yes me too. I just can't see how the town/businesses/residents will allow it to happen.

On the Monday after, More will make a Facebook post:

"We were extremely humbled by the turn out for our recent Henna releases. No-one could have anticipated the number of beer fans that descended upon our doors. We apologize to the many frustrated customers who were unable to purchase a bottle. This was a learning experience for us and we promise to do better in the future. We will be implementing new procedures to reduce lines and make future releases fair for everyone. Please, we ask you to be considerate to our neighbors and avoid littering and urinating on their property going forward."

Didn't More do a Brown Paper Ticket sale for the last release? Any reason they would change that?

Yea we’re in 2018, why hasn’t everyone adopted the off color release model? It’s pretty simple to run a release without it being an atomic shitshow, but I feel like some breweries just thrive on the shitshow-factor. TL;DR Just ticket timed pickups and then no line is necessary.

Seriously though, am I right? What are the brewery cons to ticketed events other than crashed sites, ticket scammers and a little extra planning?

1. Lack of proper 'OMG SORRY GUYZ NO IDEA THIS LINE WOULD HAPPEN' hype posts.
2. Lack of hype.
3. Did I say hype?
4. Shitlords wouldn't care as much if no line, so no hype.
5. If no neckbeards worry about getting a bottle due to a long line, did the release even happen?
6. Cash only bottle releases maximize profit$ bro.
7. If you're issuing tickets for a release, people are more inclined to just pick it up and not buy a pint of your other ****** beers, which does not maximize profit$ bro.
8. What else are all the mules going to do with the rest of their day if they don't have to wait in line so you can flip the bottles for max profit$?
9. 'Setting' bottle limits at time of release so 'everyone gets a bottle' and then proceeding to sell bottles for the next 4-52 weeks on site at a 100-400% markup is the Side Project model which should be followed everywhere to max profit$.
10. Max profit$.

Worth noting when considering the best ways to do a specialty release, it's illegal to accept the money in advance. That's why the Off Color releases don't take your money for the beer, they just take a small donation to hold your bottles. That doesn't mean it's enforced, that doesn't mean there aren't loop holes, that doesn't mean some don't do it anyways, and it's an IL thing, not every state.

I am a Lost Abbey member and there was an online Cable Car sale yesterday and the sadness was VERY strong when it sold out in 15 seconds, similar to the Mikerphone festival a month or two ago.

It's certainly convenient to not wait in line - or worse, wait in line for nothing - but you could also argue that it strips these events of the fun, camaraderie and community-building aspects and turns it into an experience that is more strictly transactional. My one experience picking up reserved bottles at Off Color (Whiskers?) felt like going to the DMV*.

And to beeraficionado's point, there's no effective way to please everyone when you've got 200 things to sell and 2,000 people who want it bad.

*actually worse, because it was more cramped and less organized.

That left the scene like 5 years ago.

There is certainly a reason most of the alcohol I purchase these days is via memberships. It lets me purchase my .rar booze through transactions, and then hang out and enjoy pours in a more relaxed atmosphere, chat up brewers, employees, other members, etc without all the ********. I mean I like meeting people who are experiencing something truly great for the first time, but then there is the whole amateur hour mess that comes with certain releases I have been to (every DLD, that last KBS Day in 2012 come especially to mind).

Come on now. That's why camera phones were made and Al Gore made the world wide webs.

Anyone going to Imperial Oak today? I haven't been in about 2 years because they're not close, and the last time I was there the stuff did not work for me at all (particularly remembering a BA scotch ale and variants). But this...hmm...

As a heads up they only bottled 180 of the Bourbon Barleywine and 120 of the Port Wheatwine. I enjoyed them, but I've obviously got a slight bias. Bottles were still available when I left around 4pm today.

Well 4 pages of pastry complainers and hot chicken arguments later, I’ve decided I’ll just make a separate post rather than sift through 1,262 pages of non-relevant info. I am prepared for the “use the search function” comments so crucify me if you must...

Flight just landed. I’m staying downtown, but willing to travel. Where should I go today? Ideally looking for bar with good food and a variety of IL taps as opposed to brewery hopping.

Where are you staying? It's a big city and our traffic sucks.

Virgin Hotel right by Millenium Park.
You know what, just go to the Hop Leaf. It will be a bit of a ride on the Brown Line, but you can't ask for a better food and beer selection in Chicago on a Sunday. Otherwise, closer to you are Publican, Publican Anker. Little Goat is another good one.

Walking distance I would choose The Gage or maybe Jake Melnicks.
