Fremont puts their fantastic Double/Imperial IPA 'The Brother' in cans and bombers. The price? $5.99 at stores for a bomber, $12 for a 4 pack of 12 oz. cans. DDC in bombers at $10+? No thanks.
The sad thing is with the Chicago beer scene (as you know) that I don't think there is a single bomber for $6 from a local brewery. Not a single dipa bomber, any style!

I wish more folks would go to the 16.9 oz bottles like RR & Maine. I don't mind paying $6-$7 for one of those to give it a try. Is it going to be a mainstay in my fridge at that price? No way, but it's a better entry point when you just want to give something a try. I pay that price for most pints at a bar anyhow so really no difference to me.

Speaking of pricing, I was at WLV last week and they had about 4 or 5 Destihl 500 mL bottles...good grief the pricing on those. It continues to shock me that new breweries absolutely do not consider the alternative price for their competitors. Maybe it's just me since I appraise real estate all day and have to consider the cost/price of alternate options. I mean I get not caring what someone across the country charges but at least look at folks that distro to your same footprint.

i think its 7.99 at Trader Joes....? dont quote me on that tho
Sounds about right based on the last time I was through a TJs.

And I know it's NW Indiana, but close enough...I almost **** myself right there in the 18th St. taproom when I found out their Grapefruit Dead DIPA bombers were $15 (think they may have been 750s, either way, the rent is too damn high).

Looking at Binny's online there are a few Rev, Big Muddy, 2 Bros that are listed at $5/22oz. And a dozen or so other bombers at $6. So there are some, but way too many overpriced bombers on the shelves of Beinnyz!

Mikkeller pricing. You know Mikkel gotta get his.

That's 18th Street in general. Prices are way high compared to better alternatives (that are priced right).

Yeah, they're definitely not pricing it with their immediate locals in mind.

EDIT: Then again, maybe they are since higher prices would slightly increase the tax revenue going to the town/city?
I still have to make it a point to try their cans someday since the price on those are much better.

One of these days Fremont WILL make it into distro in Chicago. When that day comes, I'm excited to see the impact (if any) of reasonably priced quality offerings from a non-humongous player (read, Laguinitas) on the market.

Ultimately, however, there will likely be a line for DDC on Friday no matter what the price is, and that's the most disappointing part of all. Until that stops, Half Acre and the rest will continue to take advantage of happy-to-overpay consumers in this market with no end in sight.

As for the comment about DESTIHL's ridiculous 500ml pricing, I would be very interested to hear from a brewery rep or other knowledgeable industry source as to how those prices were set.

RE: The first comment... Firestone Walker. Stone. Deschutes. Bell's and Founders. Hell, REVOLUTION. There are already an insane number of options on the shelf at the low-end of "craft" prices ($10 or so for a sixer). Another one (Fremont) isn't going to change things. The collapse of the current boom will.

RE: Destihl. I would be very interested to hear from a brewery rep why the **** their packaged offerings taste like absolute **** compared to the same beers on tap.

Founders CBS tapping at The House Pub in St. Charles on this Thursday at 7PM. They tweeted that it will be first come first serve. Not sure how it'll be handled exactly. I would assume you'd need to be there by 5PM if you were serious about it based on the size of the venue. Just thought I'd pass it along.

They also have Oude Tart for $14.99. They are sharing the sku with some unrelated wine for some reason.
Did they have more today? I checked yesterday, looked like just a bunch of Allagash & Vandermill left in the liquor clearance area. I wasn't surprised, since some loudmouth broadcasted it on CCBE a few days ago.

Those guys ruin everything. I have two grocery stores near me that no one bothered checking for craft beer. They both have very decent selections. Out of nowhere, this ONE guy on CCBE starts spouting off every time he finds something of interest at either place. Now, they're cleared out whenever I stop in.

Oh I'm not sure, I meant to post it here but forgot. I saw it a couple weekends ago in the first corral when you walk in near the left side of the store. It was near the Allagash Black and Four. That whole store is just a mess ... there is booze everywhere and nothing is organized.

Yeah, that's where it was in the pic that was posted. Bummer.

In other news, there's 4.5 cases of overpriced Hopslam at the Foremost Liquors at Ashland & Wellington. So if anyone didn't stock up already, the world is your oyster for the low, low price of $18/pack

As I haven't gone out looking for any this year, what are folks seeing Hopslam priced at?

I thought $16-$18 was the standard price for it in Chicagoland.
