Cosmic juice box is absolute fire. Almost certainly the best NE style ipa I’ve had out of Chicago. Super pillowy and not overly sweet.

With corridor, hop butcher and half acre seemingly firing on all cillendars lately, it’s a great time to be drinking hoppy beers in Chicagoland.

Also middlebrow your space is fire. Loved the pizzas and It’s awesome to have another place in the neighborhood that is welcoming at all hour of the day.
I'll be experiencing that middlebrow pizza for the first time later this evening... can't wait! I'm hoping the barrel aged Milk Mender is still flowing

Sorry...we got regular though.

i was three sentences in before i realized you weren't talking about the beer scene at chuck e cheese. also for a fun note...did you know the mascots name is charles entertainment cheese aka "chuck e" cheese?

were you listening to NPR today? i just heard this same tidbit today for the first time in my life.

as a filthy liberal, im sure you know the answer but I heard it earlier this week on something else but can't remember. it was probably second hand as the podcast i was listening to heard it on npr.

and thanks to anyone that stopped in to the bungalow, peace and love, peace and love. We are getting the brewhouse finally going hopefully this week so when anyone stops in in a month or so you can get more than 4 options. so Gonzoillini wait a month before you give the beer rundown. super pumped to use that foeder to put our spin on one of me & bryans's favs (wink wink DBA).

I really enjoyed Revolution Spirit of Revolt. My local store up here in Milwaukee only got one case, and they were selling it 1 can per person last week. Hopefully they still have some when I get back later this week.

Coming to Chicago for my five year anniversary in June. I know tables go up for sale on April 15th, but does anyone have any tips for getting a table at Alinea?

Unless you know someone within the Alinea group, you shouldn't have that much trouble just getting a reso booked up through Tock when the new seatings go up. Also skip Alinea and go to Oriole instead...

My experience is that if you try to get seats on sale day, you can. But it's been a few years.

There was also a time where they would post same/next day availability on Twitter:

It doesn't look like they do this anymore but maybe through another social media site?

On my list but the 2nd kid is making it harder for us to justify those sort of outings, both for financial and time perspectives.

We liked Next quite a bit, as an "Alinea-lite" kind of experience. I still think the overall best value we've had in restaurants of that caliber in the city was Elske.

I tried a test run on Tock a few months ago but got shut out. Also hoping to get into the Gallery as opposed to the Salon but beggars and choosers and all that. Will give it a go again though on March 15th to see what's what. Wife has wanted to go there forever. Maybe we'll check out Oriole another day though. Thanks for the recommendation. Girl and the Goat is the other planned dinner so far.

I know I'm gonna be a ball of nerves the day we fly out as that's the day we're gunning for the Alinea reservation. Flight is supposed to get in at 10:30am and then ideally Gallery 5pm seating.

Elske is so much better than Girl and the Goat, we don't go out at much with the new tiny roommate on the way, but we always find ourselves at the homie's spot Entente or usual go-tos of Lula, Elske, Boeufhaus or Red & White...

My wife is driving on this one. Again another one she's been dying to go to. I'll check out the others though for our unplanned day

Yeah, I had to google what the **** you were talking about. It looks like they've changed things up since I was there last (4 years ago tomorrow!). The Salon and Gallery things are new since then. It used to be there was one menu. Interesting...

Also, The Aviary is absolutely worth it. Even as someone who isn't the biggest cocktail person, spending a couple hours in a big comfy booth with my wife at prices that aren't completely out of line with any other high-end cocktail bars in the city was one of the better "date nights" we've had.

Lognar recommended the Aviary too. Apparently they book four months out so I need to set a reminder to do that next week. Probably do that Girl and the Goat night

That your wife is making the call notwithstanding, I vastly prefer Little Goat Diner to Girl and The Goat. Or Duck Duck Goat, for that matter. Little Goat is killer for brunch and that could free you up for dinner elsewhere - and you still get your Izard fix.

I'm in the same boat as you - we are hoping to snag a Gallery seating for our 10th anniversary in August and I wanted to see how quickly tables go when Tock opens up the reservations. I was f5'ing on 2/15 @ 11am and was surprised at how fast things booked up. All the Gallery seatings for April were gone within a few minutes, but a weekend Salon seating should be doable if you get on relatively quickly. Definitely recommend you do that test run on March 15th, and let me know if you come up with any tips.

Good luck!

I'll be sure to bring it up but I'm assuming she's not gonna budge. Maybe we'll do Little Goat for brunch the Saturday we're in town though. Brunch or Friday breakfast recommendations?

We're actually gunning for a Thursday reservation which I'm hoping will help slightly. We'll see what happens and I'll definitely let you know.

Publican is good for Saturday - you might see vav ! Or on Friday, go to their deli counter type place, Publican Quality Meats. Roister also offers brunch on Friday-Sunday, starting at 10am. Doubling (tripling?) up on Alinea group restaurants may be overkill, though.

Elske is wonderful, i highly recommend it.

Negative Ghost Rider, i refuse to work brunch on the grounds that Brunch, in and of itself, is ******* stupid. Just be an adult and say "i'd like to drink with my breakfast" like the rest of the ******* world and be done with it.

gregkoko send me a pm with what dates you wanna go to stuff and i'll see what i can help with.

Thanks! PM Incoming

And yeah I want to drink with my breakfast, damnit. I'm going on my first vacation since having a kid.

Pro Tip: Blackbird for lunch. They do a prix fixe menu for $28, which is usually identical to their dinner menu but smaller portions.

What is this? A lunch for ants?! I've always found their portions tiny as hell, second only to EL Ideas. If I had actually paid for my meal there, I'd punch myself in the face. 14 courses were roughly 28 bites, we all went to Greektown after for gyros...

Listen not to the naysayers, this will be a top notch meal. Just don’t forget pig face, pork shank and an old fashioned.

To add to your list if you have time: bellemore, smyth, giant, parachute, fat rice

If it’s during the week, I’ve walked into the aviary with no wait several times

Giant sucks! You’ll never change my mind, I’ve been there multiple times and have had to send back more than one dish due extremely ridiculous amounts of salt every time. Service sucks, their beverage dude is a dick and the food is below mediocre. I’d rather drink BiXi’s terrible beer than ever eat at Giant again.

Also Daisies is the real MVP...
