I’m thinking if people are saying mystery box it means they haven’t had time to go shopping. Understood there are plenty of valid reasons. So if someone accepts a mystery box, could the sender at least take their preferences into account? Even if its as simple as saying someone doesn’t like Belgians or something like that. Is that a thing?

I have seen people go out of their way to make sure a mystery box is a desirable item, not an "also-ran." Typically those go first because of the pedigree of the offerer. That said I completely understand your POV.

If it helps, look at this at the meta-level: Most of the folks here participate over and over again and there's a sort of running joke, covered by a running joke, covered by a running joke. The folks here are solid and I've yet to see someone disappointed by the chronically late shipper or mystery boxes. The folks here are good for it.

I am NOT at the level of those folks - my mystery box is because I literally bought a farm and the nearest Casey's General Store is 20 miles away, and going to a good liquor store is a three-hour round trip. I fully intended to "do it right" but when you are so far from civilization, you really have to plan ahead. I'm learning that. I made it right up there, so that should help a little.
