just got a leak after only half ounce of co2......last pour it was 42lb's6.4oz's....this pour it was 42lb's6.0oz's...i was like f the sun and moon, this sh~t be for real! sure enough my empty keg was spewying yeast dregs into the fridge! (DAMN POPPETS!) :mug: if a mod wants feel free to move this to drunken ramblings.....

but i feel it's drunken kegging, so i posted here ;)

You may be, but your post is not drunk enough to be moved to DRMM.

It's definitely a kegging related issue. Damn poppets, damn mess! Sorry you also lost 0.4 oz of CO2...

i'll just say you know the meme.......damn, if i didn't have tank on the scale, i would have woke to an empty tank! 0.4oz in half an hour? yeah.....

thankfully i have extra U. Poppets i'm changin that misbehaving thing now.....once again i'm glad i cought it, and all it really cost me was a keg pruge's worth of co2!

Well, that depends on what time you wake up and how much CO2 is in currently in your tank. But yeah, leaking an oz an hour can ruin the day for ya.

and if you're a person that says pics or it didn't happen.....(the HBT sticker is on the gas side though ;))

MF'r...i thought so, that keg was half full too....i now have a crisper full of brown ale :(

i haven't had a crsper full of beer, in quite some time........but it's easier to clean then the floor.....

i put the crisper on the bathroom scale before i dumped it, 24lb's of beer .....DAMN! i guess with kegging i don't need to worry about bottle bombs though ;) and it is easier....that was 3 gallons down the drain.....and i cought it quick, but i'm hittin myself, because i was waiting earlier, before i panicked.....glad i didn't wait till the morning.....when it was spewing raw gas it went down quicker.....

I knew you weren't making it up, trying to get attention. That changes the story, it wasn't an empty keg.
You wouldn't suck it out of that crisper? It's good beer...

You're lucky indeed!
I don't even have a catch basin/crisper drawer, it's an upright freezer. I always triple check any disconnected kegs. 2-3 gallons of beer on my floor right now is never good. Even a quart would cause serious issues. Seeing this, I should move that keezer back down to the utility room, once I'm finally done there. Or put it outside on the back patio for now. It's not getting that hot anymore, and the nights are cool now, 56F tonight. Damn raccoons though, gotta strap those taps.

quick question, i'm thinking is the bev poppet failed, probably good idea..yeah allready done....gas poppet is replaced too...both were originals from 15 years ago.....

bandits! hopefully they'd piss it in the woods and not on the floor though.... ;) :mug:

damn this is a bad day for me and co2, but just goes to show why i love my scale.....aparently when i yanked my leaky keg out, my pin lock started hissing.....noticed it after i only lost 0.2oz's though.....probably wouldn't have killed my tank by morning, but still....

i read somewhere else today someone saying vas'ing my posts is bad for my o-rings......anyone confirm that, because vas is all i've ever used, i don't have any silcone......

that's going to depend on the o-rings. If they're actual rubber, it could cause some degradation, but it might take a while as vaseline is a pretty mild petroleum product.

thanks! i believe i've seen red ones....are they different?

are the black ones in a set like this silicone also, or just the lid rings?

I don't even know, unfortunately. I only have this one keg that I picked up and haven't rebuilt yet, so I have yet to replace any of the bits. At a guess, I'd think most o-rings now would be nitrile, EPDM, neoprene or silicone based, but I think you said these have been kicking around for a while, that's why I was thinking it's possible the could have been natural rubber?

the poppet was ancient....i just rebuilt my o-rings in 2017, but that's before i've been reading here pin lock o-rings might be fatter....

well this is back on topic about my scale, and how much i love it.....so being that, i didn't want to go to bed last night with a questionable lube job.....i shut my tank off at the check valve....forgot about it till, i was wondering why my pours were slowing down. said "doh"...thought to myself now i'm not going to know if i have a leak.

but thankfully, i know a 12oz pour is 0.65 grams, and 6 pours would be 3.9 grams, or 0.1oz...

so i did the only thing i could do, crossed my fingers and turn the tank back on....it started hissing, i was scared....but low and behold, it only lost 0.1oz! scale saves my mental well being once again!

or well, i did lose 3 gallons, but live and learn, if i trusted it more, i would have only lost a 6 pack.... :mug: (sorry if that's a read)

Just get some keg lube and keep vasoline out of your brewery/bar and you will never again have to wonder what your various seal materials are and whether they are vulnerable to degradation due to lubricant. And a cheap tube of it lasts a looong time.

i allready ordered a tub of keg lube. and yeah i think i've still got 1/4 container of vase, after 15 years, and that's using it to lube 24/40 joints too.

edit: post edited to remove elipses. should i start capping my first letters too? ;) :mug:

Seems like that scale is actually causing significant stress...

Cheers! ;)

but it's fun stress! i'm having a good time! kinda like how i decided to learn how to balance a check book instead of get credit cards. now i hear every one has an empty tank! lol

@bracconiere finally ordered a scale! If only I had beer to dispense, but it'll be another few weeks. Kegs have been empty for a bit, kreezer is broken. Finally ordered a new freezer, hopefully will be here next week. Been way too long since I had homebrew on tap...

Also I have a CO2 leak, if I shut off all my manifold valves and my tank the pressure gauge drops to zero within a day or two. Need to fix that up as well...

hmm, if the mani fold is closed, is there a shut off you can shut off between the reg and manifold? and if so then shut of the tank to the reg, i just had to replace my reg, after 5 years of operation....

co2 leaks are lame. :mug: i feel for you.

didn't quite read that right the first time, sounds like maybe the reg. how old is it?

and unlike day_trippr's wise crack about causing me stress, it gives me peace of mind!

There is, that's a good idea. I shut the valve on the outlet of the regulator and blipped the tank open and close again to refill with pressure. I'll see if it drops over the next day or two.

The regulator is brand new as of this summer (when I first started kegging/brewing), a Kegco Premium Commercial Grade regulator.
