Has anyone tried to run a 2200w 120v element on an Auber Cube, or know if it would work?

Looking at the wiring diagram, I don’t see a reason it wouldn’t work as long as I create a power cord to replace L2 with neutral.

Here is a link to the wiring diagram, I technically have the custom Brew Hardware Auber Cube, but it’s not too different. https://www.auberins.com/images/Manual/Cube 5S_Standard US240_wiring diagram.pdf

I seem to remember reading a thread where @Bobby_M mentioned it works, but I can’t find that post now.

I made a 2.5 gallon system with an extra kettle I had lying around and the diameter is too small for anything other than a 120v element. Don’t want to buy or build another controller if I don’t need to.

Thanks in advance!

It should work in either of two ways.

120V input to the whole controller. 5-20P cable to an L14-30R connector. I'm going by memory here, but black goes to L1, Ground to ground, Neutral goes to Neutral AND to the L2 (jumped inside the L14-30R connector. That supplies neutral to both the pump output circuit and to everything else that the L2 connected to including the element. The element firing light will be a little dim.

The other way is to continue feeding it with 240v and add a 30amp double throw switch that moves the L2 of the element output back and forth between the L2 supply and the Neutral supply. That would likely be the best way if you plan to swap back and forth but there is that non-zero chance that you flip the switch to 240 mode while connected to the 120v element and you'll let the smoke out.

Thanks, Bobby. I think I’ll go with the first option. It’s easy enough to just have two different power cords for the controller. Happy to know it’s that easy. Appreciate the help!
