Anise or Licorice Root?

Which creates a stronger "traditional Licorice" flavor? I am doing a root beer for my kids; we did this recipe already https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=210057 and I loved it but the licorice flavor was a bit too much for my daughter. I want to do the same again (as I still have the same ingredients) but I want to cut back on the licorice flavor and I was wondering which one to reduce to make the better impact?
