has anyone gone on beer advocate and just read reviews for the entertainment factor?

I'm making a Marzen next and just bought a couple commercial examples, which include Spatenbrau's Oktoberfest. One review on beer advocate said "On tap, this beer has a nose that is very authentic but the taste is far too laced with dried fruit notes and the hops are far too muted to be considered within style."

Spatenbrau IS oktoberfest... it doesn't get more authentic there, brotein shake

There were a bunch of others that either made me laugh aloud at their pretentiousness or get annoyed at their condescension.

Now how many people did I offend

I'm offended you don't like beets:mad:

I am good with BA for only entertainment value. I am still in disbelief they have a magazine that sells when the style guidelines are FREE.

Wanna :taco: ?

Beets are what would happen if you served spaghetti and meatballs except the meatballs were made of dirt and partially coagulated blood.

Beets are gross

My take. I love double cheeseburgers, ribeye..you get the picture. I have to put a ton of dressing to make salad palatable. Somehow tho, if you take those same yucky salad ingredients and juice them, man it's awesome. It's the only way to ingest veggies IMHO.

I love research day... Y'all do research day right?

That's the day where you go to every liquor store nearby and buy several commercial examples of the style of beer you're going to brew next and refine your recipe... That's what I keep telling myself when I get drunk alone on a tuesday night anyway

I no longer do research that particular way. Besides you are never drinking alone with all your internet friends are drinking too.

Wrong! Beets are sweet and delicious, throw away the can and learn to cook;)

To me, they taste like sweet corn on the cob, but after eating all the corn, and just chewing on the cob. A big, blood red corn on the cob flavor.

Tasted like beets [emoji90]

now I really do want a taco.. damn
Tacos might cure cancer, of course they sound good!

I still do this when brewing something I've not brewed before. Head to a good store or two and stock up on commercial examples of what you are wanting to brew. Of course, doesn't help when you drink all 12 of the "examples" on brew day, so 3-4 weeks later you really don't remember much of anything... [emoji482]

Morning....diet rockstar

@madking funny as hell. Reminds me of a wine tasting at Stag's Leap in Napa. I go on Beer Advocate before I buy beer a lot, just to look at the ratings. I like the ones that are rated 96 not 86, but there are outliers. When 2,000 people give a beer 98 points you can count on it. Don't read the ratings a whole lot for exactly the same reasons you mention.

I like borscht soup with sour cream obviously, duh...im jewish.

Got some speakers for my garage yesterday, the same ones as my bedroom. Bowers & Wilkins speakers from 1992. As many of you know I like to talk hifi. Anyways my point being I got an old 1968 Sanyo amp at Goodwill for 12 $. They have an old Sony that was in disrepair, but right away I'm thinking these old receivers are ten times better than today's. I'll be on the hunt for a new one. I want something with like a 150 watts per channel. My other systems I use newer av amps as preamps powered by Rotel power amps.

Looks like it's going to be a scorcher today in Texas. I hope you stay cool.
