"Opportunity cost".

The only thing of value I ever learned from Econ 101 was that "getting your money's worth" means f*** all, if you already paid for it, it doesn't matter how much you use it, because YOU ALREADY PAID FOR IT.

Related: Sunk costs. Money already spent is not relevant to cost analysis, because you can't unspend that money, regardless of which alternative you choose.

Any skiers/boarders have a favorite Tahoe resort? First time out west coming up, probably just 2 days. Currently leaning toward Heavenly, but haven't made any final decisions. @mhurst111 @finsfan @anybody

The only place I've ever skied in Tahoe was Heavenly, and that was 15+ years ago. In was fine back then, but i'm sure things have changed.

That's not exactly opportunity cost. Opportunity cost would be my company choosing for me to spend my time watching training videos instead of doing billable work. I get paid the same, but only one of those options directly makes money for the company. There may be a delayed ROI later if the resulting knowledge/certification/whatever makes more money in the long run, but in the short term, it's an opportunity cost. IOW, it's opportunity cost because you're continuing to pay for it either way. One way actually makes immediate money, and the other is only a possibility of future money.

My bad. I didn't mean to imply they're the same thing. More of opportunity costs involved in the calculations of homebrewing cost.

TL;DR ... Didn't read all that gibber-jabber, but wasn't it supposed to start with "well, actually..."?

Met a dude at my wife's Christmas party that brews... I got a little too excited and we talked about beer for a while, then said we should swap some.

He then told me that he was brewing up a Gose and kept pronouncing it go-zuh, which - while it's the correct pronunciation - came across pretentious as flocc and I quickly made my exit.

I don't OVER pronounce stuff, like Giada does everything Italian on the Food Network...really irritating, and I would stop watching her, but yeah...kind of mesmerizing sometimes. I do, however, pronounce Gose correctly.

I have to be pretty much clean shaven for work. Lucky for my hairless half asian ass, that means shaving 1/week max. Makes me looks like im damn near 19 years old though.

side note: first day of work, I had to shave before theyd take an ID pick. Fun prank to play with the gas station cashier is to buy a razor and shaving cream, ask where the restroom is, come out looking like a different person, sprint for your car and yell "You never saw nuthin"

SWMBO makes me shave :(

God... swmbo won't let me shave my head any more.

I used to have pretty long hair, new owners at my old job didn't like it (my vendors were all based out of China and I barely ever left my desk) and told me in not so many words that I could cut it or find a new job.

SD is a well-actually state, so they can fire you for no reason.

I got a #1 all the way around... everyone kept coming up to me asking "WHY DID YOU DO THAT???"

And I was all, "Management told me to cut it or they'd fire me."

Caused quite the commotion... then just about got written up for it. I was out of there within 6 months. Quit, told them to pay me my 180 hrs of vacation time and flocced off.

They let me work for 4 days of my 2 week notice.

My old boss was on a service call to a refinery and they wouldn't let him in the door with any facial hair. Said it was a safety risk because he might not be abel to get a gas mask on or something. He had a pretty good goatee. Was a big job so he bowed to it. Security guard handed him a razor. Boss asks if there's a bathroom he can use, guy says nope. He had to go out to his car and dry-shave. Motherflocc that.

Man that's awesome. When I worked at FedEx, I had blue hair. They never noticed because it was winter during training.. had a hat on. After I was hired, my contractor said blue hair was unacceptable. Came in the next day with pink. Got yelled at. Shaved it all off, like you did.. told me do what I want, just wear a hat.

I slowly started testing this job. Once it got cold out, wore my winter beanie. Slowly kept it on longer and longer after coming into the office. Now I just don't take it off. Even mid summer. Amazing how uncomfortable it makes people. Funkem.

edit: also had a pretty solid hipster beard going... had a few drinks... shaved it off last night. wife is sad. im sad.

When I left for boot camp I was 210. 13 weeks later I was 145 and had to re-introduce myself to my family. I stood in front of my own mom for a good 10 minutes before I had to walk over and tell her who I was.
My ID card from back then in spooky. My eyes are really sunken in and dark, head is close shaved, really dark features. I'll try to snap a pic of the card

Never did hair longer than needed for decent liberty spikes. Hated it long. Mom always wanted me to cut it. Haircuts were expensive. Glad wife loves me for my sense of humor. I mean. I'm sure that's why she likes me. It's sure as funk not for my money! AMIRITE!?!?!??!?!

My bad. I didn't mean to imply they're the same thing. More of opportunity costs involved in the calculations of homebrewing cost.

Like hunter said, that would be more of sunk cost. The example you were making is when people fall for the sunk cost fallacy. Or, give a man a beer, and he'll waste an hour. Teach a man to brew beer, and he'll waste a lifetime.
