First time making a yeast starter, I assume this is krausen and that I have active yeast. Do I let everything settle out to step up or go ahead?

This was the first run in my 5 gal whiskey barrel. It was in there 6 weeks.

Edit: 6 weeks not 8. Second batch (rye smoked Porter) went 8 in there.

No dogs/counters + no one cares. Self reported.

It is one that I made. I had a controller sitting around and decided to use it for my build vs the potentiometer alone. The case I cut out using the laser cutter at work.
