In reading through this forum and seeing some of the issues with using one 30A 240V supply to power everything you might want (and also not wanting to pay an electrician to come drop in another 240), I decided to see what could be done with something that almost anyone with an electric dryer would already have access to: a 240V 30A + a 120V 15A supply.
I don't know if this has been done and/or documented before, but this forum has been a huge help with every step of my brewing experience and hopefully I can give something back. This has been about a 6 month project (working off and on when I have the time) - I will be supplying schematics, parts lists, pictures, and helpful tips that I learned along the way.
The general concept is to power the HLT and the BK off of the 240, and power the RIMS/MLT/Accessories with the 120.
First things first - the control panel schematic. Feel free to make suggestions on improvements... for example, I don't currently utilize any fuses (though everything is running through a GFCI prior to entering the control panel), but that is a planned addition in the future.
Parts list for Control Panel:
240V GFCI (I use a spa panel I got at Home Depot. There are at least a few threads on this, do a search for more info.)
120V GFCI - Amazon GFCI
Enclosure Box - 16x16x6 (Found on ebay, no longer available. From what I've seen, find an enclosure box on ebay for the best price. Also, if anything, go bigger than this unless you really know how to maximize space.)
Temp Controller 1 - Auber Instruments
Temp Sensor 1 - Auber Instruments
Temp Controller 2/Temp Sensor 2 - Amazon TC, comes with Temp Sensor
40A AC/DC SSR (QTY 2) - Amazon SSR 40A
25A AC/AC SSR (QTY 1) - Amazon SSR 25A
120V AC to 24V AC Transformer -Amazon 120-24 Transformer
24V 30A Contactor (QTY 2) - Amazon Contactor
Rotary Switch - Amazon Rotary Switch
Miscellaneous Bolts/Nuts
10 Gage Wire (30 feet or so?)
14 Gage Wire (30 feet or so?)
15A DPST Switch (What I had laying around, can probably safely go lighter) - Amazon 15 A DPST Switch
20A SPST Switch (QTY 3) - Amazon 20A SPST Switch
15A Outlet(QTY 2) - Amazon 15 A Receptacle
30A Outlet (QTY 3) - Amazone 30A Outlet
Cover plates for outlets (if you can't handle this one on your own, you should probably go drink an MCB.
30A Dryer supply cord, 4 wire (longer is okay too if you need more room) - Amazon Dryer Cord 4 Wire
15A Extension cord - Amazon 15A Extension Cord
