16-1 pour over at 203* using an Able Kone brought a full body cup.
The most interesting thing was each sip brought a familiar taste that quickly vanished that kept bringing oak aged spirits to mind.

Really interesting. So what’s the plan for the second half? Are you going to guess the region yet?

FWIW, that’s all bean. No additives.

I really did myself no favors trying the yirg after only 12 hours rest. It was good, but only so-so then. After another day past that it turned into something really amazing. I'm getting a strong peach flavor, but more of the center part towards the pit that is a bit more bitter, hints of pomegranate, and bakers chocolate. This is a very special coffee

Pre heat the Behmor, put in 265g hit 1 pound, start, P5 (100% power) and D to speed up the drum. At around 3 minutes I held the temp around 240* for 2 minutes then back to full power up to and held around 311* until first crack. Hit the first crack button on the timer (it really really helps not to close the timer by accident 2 minutes into the roast) and drop power down to 25-50% while it develops.

That's almost identical to my got-to Behmor roast profile haha. Wow.

@jimyson mystery ? coffee is an entirely different cup at work this morning. Behmor drip set to 202 with a 2 minute pre soak. This morning I’m getting a very pleasant berry from the cup with a clean finish and lighter body than I got from the Kone. There is an oolong tea taste that rides in towards the end. It’s gonna be a good day.

The Hama Tej roasts very well in the popcorn popper. I was able to take it to 2nd crack without any tipping which is a rarity on the popper. The following are development times and weight loss.
10% 13.7%
20% 14.1%
30% 16.4%
2C 18.4%
I roasted 3oz by weight each time which is also 4oz by volume. Each roast resulted in finished volumes of 7-7.5 oz by volume. The 10% and 20% were the better tasters and I think I'll shoot for 15% next. First crack was reached around 3:30 to 3:45. I may have mixed up the first 2 in the photo.

Would you like to know the bean yet?

PSA:

If you ship roasted coffee beans, put them in a vacuum bag or similar. I just shipped ziplock bags to @jammin and the USPS is holding them as contraband. I suspect it's because coffee is used to mask the odor of drugs.

I've had to initiate a formal appeal. A judge has been assigned. It's beyond ridiculous. Their letter to me required me to provide evidence that I was shipping legal materials. What the hell has happened to this country.

You sure that you didn’t write “fresh roasted cocaine” on the box?

Apparently I haven't learned me lesson with Geisha yet. Had to go full potato & order a pound for an absurd amount$$$ filled out the box with some others i had an eye/needed

Just.....wow.

Got an email this morning from Coffee Bean Corral that they are selling Jamaican Blue Mountain bean for.....$45.00/lb.

I don't plan on buying any but would be very interested to hear what others think of this bean. Is it THAT good? I still consider myself pretty green in terms of overall bean knowledge, so I understand that this may be one of those things that I just don't know about.

I paid $23/lb (including shipping) for a JBM via GCBC. I don't regret it, as i wanted to try it, but it's not THAT good. It's a great coffee, no doubt there's a reason that it has a great reputation. If it was <$10/lb it would have a place in the rotation with all of the other great coffee out there. Instead, at the price premium, maybe a once in a great while sort of thing, or maybe never again for me.

Since I paid that for Kona a while back I'd be willing to try this at THAT price point. But until multiple people tell me that this is a "you HAVE to try coffee" I'm not even thinking about it. Thanks.

I still have most of it, so there's time for it to change my mind, but IIRC, others here told me about the same thing when I asked a similar question right before I bought it. :)

I spoke with the inspector in charge of the non-mailable packages (aka cocaine and pot masked by coffee). He said he'd get it processed and shipped. I gave him permission to open it, not sure if he's going to. But I think he believed me.

Apparently, he said my package smells strongly of marijuana now. It's been bundled for over a week with a bunch of other packages that actually contained pot.

How long was it there? I wonder what "evidence"-aged coffee will taste like.
