    Kegging Kombucha

I've seen this touched upon and the answers I've found don't reference any real-world experiences. It seems most people just frown at the idea because an acidic solution can pit stainless. I'd love to hear from some people that have dedicated one of their tap lines to kombucha and whether...

    Doulbe Boil Kettle Screen

I'm currently draining my BK into a fermenter and just having it flow through SS mesh strainer. I'd like to avoid doing this because of the splashing and sanitizing. I'd like to get some input on this design before I run out and buy everything so here it is: So what's going on here...

Bayou Classic Burner KAB4 different heights?

I've looked all over for these things and every now and then I find one that has the burner MUCH closer to the pot it's heating. Take a look at this one...

    Oxyclean residue on stainless

Just took apart one of my kegs and filled it with an oxyclean solution (used generic oxyclean). I let it sit for a couple of days and all the stainless has a rough grit all over it. I got some of it off by scrubbing with a sponge so I'm guessing the metal isn't corroded but I can't scrub the...

    Parti Time!

This is the 5.5 gal recipe for a barely wine that I've arrived at. It will be a 120 minute boil with one hop addition at 60 min and honey added at high krausen: I was planning on making a small beer out of the 2nd runnings, but I wanted some input on another idea. I've read that...

    Veggie fest 2011

I just finished fermenting a belgian golden strong ale. I dry hopped for 2.5 weeks in the secondary (a little long) and now I've got a belgian that smells great but tastes like vegetables. Does this taste fade in a similar fashion to hop flavor/aroma?

    aeration

i've got an old aquarium pump and hose. can i just sanitize the outside of the hose and stick it in the carboy without a stone on it? just the hose pumping air in. i'm sure a SS airstone would work better, i'm just not really interested in investing any money in this.

    Mysterious Beer Gas Disappearance

I hooked up a 10# tank of beer gas about 2 weeks ago. I had to connected to one regulator set at 35PSI that went into a 3-way manifold. It was only hooked up to one keg, so only one valve on the manifold was open. I went to pour a beer tonight and to my surprise, there was ZERO pressure...

    Beer Gas

Can you carbonate a beer with beergas? I've had a Black IPA hooked up at 30psi for almost a week and all I get is a very thin, delayed head (about 10-15 seconds before any bubbles appear on the surface). I don't have 2 tanks and I'm reluctant to just empty it so I can get some CO2 to get...

    Reverse Mash Infusion Temps

I've only done mashes with progressively higher temps. Does anyone know what the effects are of starting a mash at 155*F and letting it drop to something like 149*F are? Let's assume I use an IC and some stirring to drop the temp over the course of a few minutes. Will beta-amylase enzymes...

    Grain Mill Recommendations

I'm sure there are plenty of opinions to be offered on this. Here's what I'm thinking of as of right now: http://www.northernbrewer.com/brewing/barley-crusher-w-15-hopper.html :mug:

    Golden Strong Ale efficiency issues

I brewed this last night, I was thinking of something along the lines of a Belgian Golden Strong ale but didn't quite stick to style. My LHBS threw me a curveball when they said they will never get clear candi sugar again (apparently the guy that makes it couldn't justify it?), so I had to use...

    Homebrew Competition Rules

I was reading through some rules on the Sam Adams Patriot competition and saw this: I've seen this before but don't understand it. Can someone explain?

    Installing Shanks?

I'm using the 4" version of these shanks (http://www.beveragefactory.com/draftbeer/faucets/shanks/SHANK6.shtml) and I'm trying to figure out what size hole to drill for them. 3/4" is too small but 1" definitely leaves some wiggle room. Do I need to land on something in between those or is some...

    cold co2

Are there any problems with keeping co2 outside of the kegerator? I know gas reacts differently at different temps, but that's all I know.

    CrowsNest Keezer

With 2 weeks off and about a month's worth of PTO, the time (and money) have finally fallen in my favor. What better to do with this time than to spend it building a keezer! Just got this 14.6 cuft GE off Craigslist. The inside is clean, but note the dents. I got excited and paid $300 for...

    Kegerators!

I'm getting ready to buy a (most likely used) 14.8 freezer. Here are a few questions for anyone with the know-how: 1. I've seen a lot of kegerators with collars, if I'm only putting a 5# co2 bottle on the hump and then kegs/carboys in the main section, do I need a collar? 2. Can I get...

    Frozen Yeast

Washed my White Labs Abbey Ale Yeast (WLP530) after racking on Wednesday. I stuck the jars in the back of the refrigerator without realizing one of them was adjacent to the cooling unit. 90% of the liquid froze (luckily the jar didn't crack). My understanding is that when cells freeze they...

    BJCP Style Question

Would an American Wheat that is boiled with orange peels be considered 6D - American Wheat or Rye Beer, or would it be 20 - Fruit Beer? Both?
