    So long automation....

So I finally got my Strange Brew Elsinore software installed and running on my Beaglebone Black along with the pH meter and a hall-effects flow meter. Assembled a controller for my 15 gal system and found it made brewing boring. I guess it was the tinkerer in me that needed to be satisfied. Back...

    Any Webster area brewers

Just looking to see if there are any home brewers in the Webster area. Either beginners or experienced to co-brew a batch or two. I'm set up for electric but do have a couple of propane burners. LMK if any interest. Webster, NH

Need some perspective on elements and wattage

I see many posts here and the common thread in them is the need for 5500 watt elements. I don't care if someone wants one, but where does actual need come in? The 55 gal Boilermaker kettle I use comes with 2 5500 watt elements and does a very good job at it. Now I don't claim to be an electrical...

Looking for 3bbl mash tun options

Looking at bumping up equipment size while keeping to DIY just on larger scale. Increasing from 1/2 bbl to 3 bbl, have the HLT and BK set but a bit fuzzy on a RIMS setup heater requirement. Original idea was just a larger size RIMS tube with dual elements. Would I be better off with a HERMS...

I am looking for a few of Houston's Best Beers to try in the frozen North. Being unfamiliar with your locals brews, I need some advice on what to buy. I am really interested in something unique. Any suggestions for this cold Yankee?

PID Issue - need peace of mind

I built my controller but am having an issue with the RIMs side. I Had a Sestos PID which pretty much just annoyed me,(D1S-VR-220) It worked but not as I wanted. I came across a T4A-RNR so I swapped it in. Went through and verified the setup parameters and then tried autotuning. The output light...

Walk-in Fermentation Chamber - the beginning

Been kicking around ideas for building a walk-in unit and still have some decisions to make. One thing I noticed was all the care and effort that went into insulating and sealing the enclosures. Then it hit me. SIPS, structural insulated panels. I built my house using them instead of your normal...

    Recipe help

OK, we are having a brew club jamboree in 2 weeks and we will be having among other things lobster and clams/mussels here in NH. Since we are probably using some of our converted kegs to boil the beauties, I thought a seafood ale using the boiled liquid. Why, just because it's there. Anyone have...

Have a minor issue (time), need ideas

I need a few quick Ales to get in kegs and drink ASAP. Wife decided to have a small party in under 4 weeks and I need some beers for said event. I have been focusing on Belgians Sours, Tripels, Flanders Red , a lambic and a Gose. So basically everything I have fermenting still has at least 2...

    ?? about East Coast Yeast

Anybody here really swear by ECY? Upon a recommendation I bought some. Got lucky apparently and it was in stock when I bought it. Is there any more to this yeast than hype? When I want to brew, I want to brew not wait a minimum of a month on the off chance that it will be in stock again. Should...

Bayou Classic - first it started with surface rust

In April I acquired, in a trade, a brand new Bayou Classic 10 gal brew kettle, it had all the bells and whistles and I used for one extract brew and then went back into all grain. Now it severed as a hot water tank. Well I noticed what appeared to be some surface rust around the base of the pot...

Pump question -It may be blasphemy but

I need a simple question answered regarding pumps. OK I am no fan of hefting 5 and 10 gallon mash tuns and hot water tanks on platforms to allow for gravity feed. I am also no fan of buying pricey hardware as in March and Chugger pumps just to move sparge water or drain a mash tun into the boil...

    Mead fermentation question, how long?

Its been about 15 years since my last Mead bottle bomb incident but I have a quick question regarding fermentation time. I made a 3 gal batch and used the Wyeast Sweet Mead. I oxygenated the mead with bottled O2 pitched the yeast and it has been bubbling constantly every 2 seconds for about 4...
