The DME you will need for a starter is more expensive than a fresh pack of Notty, easier and cheaper to use a fresh pack.

Yeah, but with 1 lb of DME and washed yeast you can make at least a half dozen starters. Granted, with Notty it's not a huge cost savings, but it works with any yeast.
 
Actually, the better way to extend a package of yeast is to portion out your first starter from a fresh pack into about a dozen small viles and freeze them. That way you get first generation yeast. Also, you get about a dozen mini starters from 1 pack of yeast and about 1/2 cup of DME.
 
Before I buy online I'm going to check out the medical supply store to see what they have. I almost bought these from ebay. They came with a stainless steel holder. The only thing is they were a little small, only about 15ml.
