Since the birth of the "reality revolution", television's gone downhill fast. Outside of HBO, there aren't too many shows that are able to stay consistently good. Ones that I used to LOVE but just sorta gave up on:
Fringe - Just like Revvy, I liked the "standalone" episodes, but hate the threaded plot ones. The whole alternate universe thing is annoying.
Chuck - Liked the show for the first couple of seasons, but just got dumb the last two seasons, and they should have killed it off while it still had some dignity. (Doesn't hurt that Yvonne Strahovski is friggin' gorgeous).
Simpsons - From being written by comedic geniuses, to being written by kids with crayons and ADD. I used to laugh my arse off at this show, now I don't even crack a smile during an episode (when I can be arsed to watch it...)
The Office - The British version knew when to call it quits, but this is being dragged on way beyond it's shelf life. Plenty of other sitcoms fall into this category too, How I met Your Mother, I'm looking at you.
Couldn't agree more about Discovery Channel and History turning to crap as well. Discovery used to be absolutely packed with awesome documentaries and thought provoking shows. But since Deadliest Catch took off, all they do now is make shows about random blue collar jobs. Crab fishermen was one thing, now we have truckers, loggers, swampers, gold miners, bush pilots, gunsmiths, bike builders... jesus enough already.
What really bugs me is when networks keep these dogs on the air, but cancel shows that are actually decent. NBC is the friggin' worst at that. "Life" was a really good detective show that was brilliantly acted, but only lasted two seasons. "Prime Suspect" was a really good detective show that goes into the same category. But we still have 15 flavours of CSI and a half dozen various Law and Orders.
