    welcome nice to see another local, suburbs of Chicago here. Nice choice for a clone, enjoying a gumball head as we speak.

    first batch question,changing taste

    I did use a bottling bucket and a bottle filler. I had it in the primary for a week and a half and my secondary for a little over 2 weeks. After bottling I let settle for a little over 2 weeks in my back room which sits at a steady 68 degrees.

    So I brewed my first batch an american wheat and it came out great, a high abv 6.5 , it was a nice shade of dark brown, nice and clear.     thats good to know I don't think I will let it settle I don't mind the haze to keep the nice aroma of the beer. I did use an ale yeast, its not a cloudy haze its just a thick dark color I was expecting the taste to be very strong to match the color and it did not it was a nice light wheat taste.

    Its an american wheat, taste is great carbonation was great I'm happy with how it turned out. It could of been a little more clear but it wasn't too bad, I learned allot brewing this batch.

    How do you know when you really start making good beer?

    Im new to brewing but I drink ALOT of beer. No matter what beer I drink or try every time I sit down with a gum ball head it pops my cherry all over. Those guys just nailed it lol

    OMG!! so its a waiting game!

    Your not alone I bottled my first batch on sat and brewed my 2nd batch the same night and I hate the waiting game. Im can't wait to see my finial product.

    thanks looks like a lot of people from the general area on here which is nice. This summer is gone be rough I just took out my smoker today going to be a lot of beer drinking and grilling/smoking this summer.

    yeah I was up late last night reading all the different threads, right now I am just brewing from the kits to learn how to actually brew and what to look for and work with the different items once I get that down I will be looking forward to building and brewing an all grain setup.

    Hello names tom I live in the suburbs of Chicago, just got into home brewing I have been interested in it for a while and just made the jump so I hope I can stick around and learn from everybody.
