    Where to get corn?

Is that in the food department, or the wild feed department? I am concerned that corn destined for feeding animals might have chemicals that aren't recommended for human consumption. (Not that I am concerned for my own safety, but I would prefer the ingredients to be more or less wholesome for...

    Where to get corn?

I've been using flaked maize in my early mash attempts, but I'm sure that's not what most distillers use. I've read most people use dent corn, but I'm not sure where to get a significant qty of it. I think a 50# sack should last me quite a while.

GUINNESS Foreign Extra Stout being discontinued in US?

She's halfway through her teaching degree, and as far as I know, no pole dancing. I don't think that's her style, thank God. But with the high cost of higher education these days, I wouldn't blame her!

What did you get for Christmas?

I got a book on World Beers from my BIL/SIL, a book about Hops (Can't recall the name, but it's new. I think it's geared a little more towards NEIPA hopping, but it's a bit technical, and possibly not JUST about NEIPA's), and a bottle opener that shoots bottle caps like a pistol. Also a...

Anyone seen this little guy before?

His name is Kristopher McDaniels. He led a one-man charge into an enemy stronghold to rescue 3 of his fellow soldiers in Afganistan, but lost his leg from enemy fire in the process. It went down like this: McDaniels paused momentarily alongside the door. He could hear the guards arguing...

I'm not sure what to do with this "beer tap" thing

Cool. I would LOVE to have that and restore it and put it back together. What a cool project! The beer engine is used to "Pull" beer from the basement (usually) up to the bar. Can be used to lift a beer from under the bar as well, but traditionally it was kept a bit cooler in the basement...

    New School WCIPAs and APAs

Are these like the new "Brut" style IPA's? I have had a few and don't care for them.

    Trillium? Is this normal?

I had a Michigan craft NEIPA the other day and was disturbed to see a huge amount of chunky sediment after the pour. Being the beer whore I am, I went ahead and drank it anyway. It was delicious. The next one I had (different NEIPA) didn't have the chunks, but was still damn tasty. I have...

    Condenser question

Checked when I got back home and sure enough, the water is plumbed backwards. I am sure it was right at one time, but I may have swapped them during the first cleaning or something. I will swap them back and try it again on the next run. Still have to get my grain and corn and brew a batch of...

    Homemade hot sauce recipes

Thanks, guys. I have never made a hot sauce, but I pickled the peppers due to some advice I read online from someone who does a lot of it.

    Condenser question

You know, I am looking at the picture on my phone and I think the fittings look like it's right, but I can also see the output from my first run setup (using a bucket and ice water) and it looks like it's flowing backwards. This is definitely something I will have to double check when I get...

    Condenser question

I am at work and can't measure, but it's about 3' long. Straight at about a 45 Degree downward slant. I have thought about switching to a coil immersed in a bath. I think I would use less water this way. This is very similar to mine...

    Homemade hot sauce recipes

I need advice on a basic recipe to turn a pint of pickled Serrano's into some hot sauce. It can't be too hot. I can adjust the heat, but I'm not sure what base recipe to start with. We don't like a LOT of heat, but I'm looking for something that is flavorful. There are too many recipes out...

Gardening: My Tomatoe and Pepper Progress

My garden sucked balls this year. I got about 3 tomatoes so far, and the plants are on the downswing. I'm not sure I will get any more to ripen. 1 very small pepper. 3 cucumbers.

Decent Sawzall for a good price?

I LOVE my DeWalt cordless drill. It's nothing too special, but just goes and goes with zero problems. I'd even drilled rebar in concrete with it! I think he will like it. If he doesn't have an oscillating multitool, I find they are the next best thing to a Dremel...

    Question about Column/Efficiency

I built an 8 gallon still with a 36" tall column, 2" diameter (IIRC). Last run I measured about 60% or so. My limited googling shows this is normal range for Pot Still. I kind of expected a bit higher proof just due to the column height. Now I ain't complaining. I planned to make mostly...

    Condenser question

I have an 8 gallon still with a tall column, a 80 degree arm, and a copper pipe condenser jacket coming down at about a 45 degree angle from the arm. The condenser is a 3/8" copper tube inside a 1/2" copper tube. Water jacket. Anyway, the last time I ran it (3rd time) there was still some...

    Kayak

@Yooper This reminds me I forgot to ask Bob about setting up my kayak for fishing. I think I will want to at least add a pump and rig up an anchor. I thought he might have some insight. I intend to just fish in the calmer, smaller lakes here in northern michigan.
