Magnify Saturday

I don't know if I'm in the minority here, but I thought that beer was kind of gross. Maybe the red wine barrel will make it a little more palatable, and I'll still certainly give it a taste on draft, but I can't imagine drinking a bottle of that.

On the other hand, I'm psyched to try the new batch of Search Saison. I may swing by right after work today for that one.

I agree with ya, but I'm also not a Triple fan. +/- bias there, but you're on point about that Search Saison batch, it's gonna be so good.

Hey if there's anybody from North or Central Jersey going to the Tired Hands release tomorrow--I'm just looking for one can of the Passion Fruit Milkshake IPA. I can go 1:1 for a can of Tree House Single Shot, but am flexible if you want to expand. PM me if you're interested.

Yeah, can confirm, that new Search Saison is good as hell. I'd still like to see the old version pop up from time to time, but if we only see the new version from here on out, I'm not gonna complain.

Woah Equinox was really good too. I liked it better than the batch of Woah Nelly that was canned, but not as good as I recall the first batch of Woah Nelly being. Either way, really tasty.

I just hope they don't keep doing the releases on saturday now, I enjoyed them on friday cause I could stop by on my way home haha.

It's been so quiet.. What's new everybody?

I went to Capital Craft last weekend, and the egg on my breakfast pizza was undercooked, but I didn't realize it until I was like 2 slices in and it made me a little sick. Nice place though.

I also stopped by Demented and really enjoyed what I had, so kudos to DJPhresh. I particularly enjoyed the Rongo, which I believe was a single hop Rakau IPA. I don't think I've ever seen anything utilizing that hop variety, so that's cool.

Lastly, I've seen people on Facebook saying Bolero Snort's creamsicle beer is good. Anybody had it?

That's a start, yeah?

Can confirm Creamsicle was very good. It wasn't sweet by any means, has that orange vanilla hint to it, but it's also super resiny and piney.

Yeah DJPhresh is doing some great things at demented. Had his kiwi ipa the other week and it was great.

I'm looking forward to checking out spellbound for their day before Easter firkins which just sound fun.

seedavid The Rongo has been kicked for awhile now which is the Rye Pale Ale. Whiro, the single-hop Rakau is currently still on tap which around 50-55 I get some really interesting aromatic flavors. Thanks & let me know next time your in the area I have something for you.

kbhess Thanks man. Hoping to brew the Kiwi ipa again on the big system.

I second this. The Bolero OVB is very good. It really seems they've turned a corner the last year with the Rotatabull and Variabull series. I also was a fan of the Explorabull IPA.

Just tried the foeder Search Saison and the Equinox at the brewery and was real happy with the quality of both. The Equinox had a rich piney/resin flavor that was memorable. The workers at Magnify were attentive and nice and certainly proud of their foeder. Barely got a foot in the door before being offered a taste. Yes please. Great place and look forward to going back.

I want to check it out for myself eventually, but yeah. Why is it surprising? Know the guys brewing there?

1. I know people that know them.. and apparently they are real beer people... of course that does not mean someone can brew, but it should allow them to be better and choosing what is actually sold if they know what good beer is. (of course people's judgement's are clouded when their money or ego is on the line)

2. Many mediocre at best breweries have people speaking highly of them. So I expect almost any new NJ brewery to at least be hyped locally. I don't buy into the hype but it's what I see most of the time.

any opinions on Dark City Brewing?

Their darker stuff is fine, but everything else needs work. Nothing to go out of your way for.

Allegedly they're having water quality/composition issues, and have been investigating possible improvements. I'm in Asbury all the damn time, so I'm sure I'll end up going again at some point, but I'm not rushing over there or anything.

I was at Dark City a few weeks back and one of the owners/brewers Kevin shared with me a test batch for a saison he is making. He said he did a coolship like approach plus some dregs and i thought it was a great starting point, great funk! Overall I enjoyed what they had but wasn't especially impressed with the Decay variations they had on tap or the single hop IPA. Keeping in mind how young this brewery is, its only going to get better and its at a solid starting point.

What other new/local breweries have you guys been to?

I'm most excited for Czig Meister brewing in Hackettstown to open.

Of places that have opened in the last year or so, I've been to Magnify/Brix/Conclave.

All three are in industrial spaces.

Magnify is the most aesthetically pleasing of the three. I dig the feel of the tap room.
Brix City is the largest of the three. More of a typical tasting room that people are used to seeing. It's a very big space, high ceilings, etc.
Conclave is in an small space, but more importantly is far and away putting out the best beer of the three.
