What’s this I sometimes find in the bottom of my kettle? It’s a translucent gelatine like substance with a rubbery texture. Is it some kind of lipid from the malt?

My guess, could be some kind of hot or cold break protein blob?!?

Yeah definitely aliens, they probed and inseminated your batch

In all of my years of brewing, I have never seen anything remotely like that in any of my kettles. Did you add rubber cement at flameout? :D

No but you got me thinking. Could it be the Irish moss? I added a teaspoon of it.

irish moss should just look like rehydrated flakes.

it sort of looks like xanthan gum when you add too much to your liquid. could it maybe be some gelatin added by mistake?

I don't think so. I have used Irish Moss for ever and not seen anything like that. My money says it is some kind of protein spooge. I would be curious about what your grain bill was for this particular batch.

Never... ever... seen anything like that in any stage of my brewing operation. Agree with burning it.
