Completely forgot about pictures (blaming it on the Veuve Clicquot champagne) but we just finished Argentinian red shrimp, steamed, chilled and served with wasabe cocktail sauce; half a LARGE artichoke each with Meyer lemon/garlic aioli; garlic cheese bread on sourdough baguette; and the aforementioned champagne. Yum.

Back when we were in CA we also did freshly cooked Dungeness crab but that's harder to get here in the middle of AZ!

Merry Christmas Eve! Super lazy but tasty. Filets, mashed, and chopped salad. The mashed was premade, and the salad was a kit. I seared the filets in an electric skillet as hot as I could get it. I added butter when I flipped them and basted with a spoon. Then I put them in the oven to finish at 400. In the skillet I added evoo, onions, rosemary and garlic. I then deglazed with wine, seasoned, and reduced. It was sooo good. Wow. Tried to get a few pics but just doesnt capture the beautiful sear.

Tomorrow am going to smoke the prime rib. I always smoke at 275, wonder if it will need a late sear?

You could try sand crabs yuk yuk.
Merry Christmas

Never blame Champagne especially not from Madame Veuve. I spring for a bottle of Le Grande Dame vintage whenever I can. Not nearly enough, but any excuse I can. I like it better than Cristal and Dom but to each their own.

I prefer it to the others as well. It has the most wonderful yeasty aroma and it's just plain delicious.

We opened a bottle of Dom one year that was pitiful - not even worth drinking. Turned it into champagne vinegar. Damn expensive vinegar, I might add!

Nothing to see here.

This was made during some epic family drama. Somehow the fuming parties all sat down at the same table and ate it. Very quiet now though.

This stuff happened so often when my mother's side of the family got together that those occasions were fondly (or not!) known as "Family Fight Night." Glad yours all worked out well!

A lovely bit of meat like that does have a way of soothing the savage breast.... ;)

Haha, reminds me of that saturday night live skit. They all are sitting down eating quietly, someone says one thing and a few words later they are all yelling. My family for sure.

Merry Christmas fellow foodies! My big meal last night was sausage cheese balls! lol I loaded a bunch of them in an insulated travel mug and the wife and I drove around the local neighborhoods looking at Christmas lights :) I'm doing paneer tikka masala and jambalaya today though (not to go together!).

Last night was a scattered asian theme:
Cambodian Char Siu
French-vietnamese Pho
Hmong Sausage
Lao spring roll noodle salad with Thai peanut dressing.
No pics, I was too busy cooking. If someone shares a pic, I'll add later.

Tonight is a basic yet delicious dinner
Prime Rib
Roasted Brussels
Corn Pudding
Green bean casserole
Bread pudding with bourbon sauce.

I'm making the corn pudding - for people who like it.
And the bourbon sauce for the bread pudding.

Rest of my duties involved cradling the prime rib and probably carving it too.
And drinking Champagne all day.

Very romantic, nice.

Merry Christmas to those that celebrate! Started out the day with a cheese coffee cake, then onto shrimp cocktail, rib roast, green bean almandine, roasted fingerling potatoes with rosemary and Perl onions, roasted Brussels sprouts, and peeked looking sourdough rolls, but they were done and crusty.

Wow, beautiful dishes. Hoppy2bmerry the cheese danish looked amazing. As did the beautiful cook on that prime rib. Temptd2 the knife skills on that potato is amazing. I cant believe how even each slice is. I have never heard of that before, but welcome leanring more. And staestc love the tikka. I have to learn to make that. Indian food is my wife and my favorite. Paneer, cheese? I think I have heard that term before for fresh cheese. That dish is jumping out of the skillet.

We started with, a "christmas loaf" guess thats what we will call it. My wife said it and it kind of stuck. I was lazy, go figure, and so I wanted to make the monkey bread in advance. This was a christmas tradition growing up. But since I wasnt cooking it right away I decided to add butter later. So I scooped a slightly salty lean dough with a melon baller and dropped the balls into a mix of brown sugar, white sugar, and saigon cinnamon . I rolled and really coated this wet dough well. Then i put them, stacked them, into a big casserole dish that was parchment papered. Hoped it would last 2 days, but then started wondering when I found it risen to the top of the dish. It didnt get any bigger so I let it go.

This morning I melted a stick of butter with a good two thirds cup sugar and whisked well. Then I poured that sugar goo over the top and slow baked at 350. Then I took them out flipped and frosted with a can of frosting. It was really good, couldnt capture a pic. Also had strawberries in chocolate. That ghiradelli melting chocolate quickly melted in a little glass dish and the strawberries were solid in 5 minutes. I was super happy with both.

Nothing fancy but took the day off work since I had a vacation day to burn and decided to fire up the charcoal and do some quick burgers. Swiss, tomato, ketchup and pickles on the side with a brioche bun.
