What did I cook this weekend.....

Frying eggs is the only reason I even own a non-stick pan, and even then I buy the cheapest one I can find because even the expensive ones that I've had didn't last more than two years (some are dead within 6 months, because I refuse to fry on medium heat). And none of them are immune to warping because I only fry eggs on one speed: full blast. And I put them in the dishwasher daily, because I fry eggs daily.

My own thoughts, almost exactly. Actually, the reason I replaced our nonstick is because I had a bad experience a couple times in a row heating milk. I kept scorching and getting a lot of milk protiens stuck to the bottom of the pan. I'm looking forward to trying the same in a nonstick.

Weekend is upon us now. I've got to come up with something good to cook so I can post it here. Grilling season is just about over here in Finland, temperatures sank like a rock last week and the warm weather probably isn't coming back.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. My youngest boy asked for pasta this wkend, so I think I'll be making ravioli of some sort.

We have the 'green' nonstick pans that we use for a variety of things, but keep a couple of crappy nonsticks around for making asian dumplings.

That being said, we use the heck out of my grandmother's cast iron pans and our gigantic dutch oven.

Ball whisks suck for use in cooking pans; especially suck bad for heating milk. What you need is a fine wire sauce whisk like this one. I use one just like this for cooking chocolate pudding and I've never had a problem.

Or this, if somebody insists on using a non-stick pan:

Since mushroom season is here among us now, I'm aiming for some porcini and lamb fondue! Let's see if I can find some porcini today; it still might be a few days too early.

Beautiful work Cheesy!

Yesterday was mandu night. Made a bunch to freeze for soups later then fried a bunch for the family after fishing all day. These freakin things are a labor of love let me tell ya. Took me what seemed like hours to make 6 trays. I need a mandu machine...

Are you using wonton wrappers? I think I really need to try this.

Looks great! Obviously latin but not Mexican. Cuban? Puerto Rican?

Puerto Rican although like most of my cooking the lines get blurred as I don't stick to traditional recipes and conventions e.g. Threw a couple scotch bonnets in the habichuelas

Sunday I processed 25lbs of plums. No pics, I just wanted to get 'em done, in the freezer & cleaned up ASAP. I've got another 20 lbs to process today. Most will become wine, but some will become jam when I get the time.
Regards, GF.

I moved my daughter to MSU this weekend and then brewed Sunday morning and worked at a friend's house that night. No cooking for me.

My schedule is pretty busy coming up, so I'm not sure when I will have time to cook. I got a ground pork corn chowder recipe in my head to try too!

Made ravioli's this weekend. Riccata-stuffed and italian-sausage stuffed. They fell apart in a mess in the pot of water so I ended up frying them like peirogies, which worked out great! I have other pics, but haven't taken them off camera yet.

You and me both homer. I joined a squadron of parents driving uhauls across the state last week. Took my oldest boy back to college. I've got a Sophomore, Junior, and Senior in college right now. Woot!

Here's a picture he took of the pool at his complex. It was free beer and hot dog day. Can you believe this crap? No idea how anybody graduates from a place like that (or, why would you want to :) )

Damn, I always knew my college apartment was a sketchy roach-infested dump, but seeing that makes me feel like I was living in abject squalor. Apparently I did college wrong. :D

Holy crap PP my dorm room in college was like a jail cell. I moved my daughter back to school Friday. I have 2 daughters in college a Jr. and a Sr.

I went to school in PA. There wasn't any place like that (especially not at the catholic college I went to!). Maybe it's just Florida schools. Nuts.

You guys with teenagers looking for a school, have them check out The Retreat, right across the street from the UCF campus: http://www.retreatorlando.com/retreat-orlando/photo-gallery

This may start out sounding like a total non-sequitur, but bear with me.

I heard an interview with the author of the Rotten Ralph books. He decided to become a children's author while serving time for drug trafficking. He got an early release from prison in part because he had gotten accepted to a legit university. He said "I went straight from a cell in a federal penitentiary to a university dorm room and they were the same construction."

I think I'll try an experiment this weekend with a glass of bourbon and some of my bhut jolokia (sp?) hot sauce, as I'm intrigued by some of podz's posts. Never tried liquor before.

Forgot about this and then a couple beers last night jarred my memory.

I dumped some ghost pepper hot sauce on my tongue last night, and within seconds my tongue was on fire. I then took a mouthful of bourbon and proceeded to swish it around my mouth like mouthwash. While the pain in my tongue did abate substantially, I then had the problem that the entire gum-lining of my mouth was now in fire. Even in the tiny crevices between my teeth. Never felt that sensation before. Quite unpleasant. :cross:

Next time I'll just swallow the bourbon.... :drunk:

You'll just move the burning problem south, into the Chasm of Doom. Only there can it be unmade.

I've only once had a problem with spicy things, which I love BTW. It was Da Bomb Ground Zero (hot sauce). I was starving and the only thing I had was this and Saltines. So I sat at my desk and ate crackers and Da Bomb. About 30 minutes later I exploded. I needed a balm of aloe and Breyers orange sherbet applied to the moist areas of my body every 30 minutes to make the spasms go away.

Very funny and very true. My daughter's dorms are so small if 2 people are walking down the hall in opposite directions you both have to turn sideways. That is not an exaggeration btw.

^ aint nothin wrong with any of that. Bachelor chow pro-tip (as if you need one, this is for the viewers at home...) homemade hotsauce for the eggs.

Are we talking two people, each of less than 25 BMI?

Thanks for making me laugh!

Bought a couple of eggplants a couple of days ago and left them out on the kitchen counter. One very quickly started to get a brown spot, so I peeled 'em and salted 'em without further delay. I went ahead and set up a breading station and knocked them out a little while later. I had enough stuff leftover to do a handful of onion rings, too. They are currently in the freezer, awaiting the anointing of the frying oil.
