@Rish how were their beers. I'm planning a trip to Ferris soon and I'll have to stop by there. I want to try their Italian Pilsner and that Dragonfruit Sour.

Both of those I thought were pretty good when I tried them a few weeks ago. Wasn't particularly impressed with the wit. Let me know when you're going to Ferus and I'll buy you a beer if I'm around.

Steele Head Brewing in Trussville, AL. They bought Slag Heap Brewing many months ago and have been open a couple of weeks. 6 beers plus a root beer on tap. Nice venue, some decent beer. I did have to wait a while for the server to get off a personal phone call to get another beer but not terrible. They do plan to add some darker beers which I prefer.

I finally made by there yesterday. Only had a few minutes so I was only able to have one beer but I did sample their lager and hazy IPA. I had a pint of their Italian Pilsner. All were quite tasty but I must admit I was impressed with Pilsner. I will definitely go back with more time one day soon. And I will let you know, maybe even schedule it in advance.

LOLEV in Pittsburgh. Opened last December. Stopped in early before it was busy and it turned out to be good timing for an impromptu tour of the brew deck. The beers I had were all very good, even the matcha ale.

Hop Farm Brewery

This was a good stop too. Another place with solid beers, this stout was like drinking Godiva dark chocolate, very chocolaty the high ABV was not highly noticeable or perhaps I was ready for more food. The food was good too and prepared in house.

Tapache, chili mango, blueberry lemon cake and pomegranate ciders at Atlanta (really Marietta) cider company. All very good with the tepache being the standout.

I remember Spanish Fort from 50+ years ago when I was a fledgling Naval Aviator in Pensacola, FL. We revisited the area a few years back. Sure had changed. A lot.

Looks like a return visit is in order, with the first stop at Old 31!

Sampler flight at sunset at Grist Iron Brewery near Watkins Glen, NY, on the east shore of Seneca Lake in the Finger Lakes region.

L to R: pale ale, WCIPA, Irish Red, and what’s left of a Kiwi Sour. I’m not particularly fond of sours, but as you can see it ‘evaporated’ before the others, all of which were quite nice.

We’re doing a week of breweries and wineries in upstate New York, traveling in our motor home and staying at Harvest Host locations on the brewery/winery properties. Perfect way to see the fall offerings and not drink and drive. The perfect weather has been an added plus.

Recently went to Denver and hit 13 breweries: Lowdown, Renegade, Our mutual friend, Ratio, Odell, River North, Bierstadt lagerhaus, Black sky (2x), Novel strand, Trve, Banded oak, Baere, & Jagged mountain. Bierstadt was having their Oktoberfest, and Black Sky had a concert. Also missed a couple I wanted to hit due to extenuating circumstances. Anyway, here's a couple pictures:

Council Rock Brewery Cooperstown NY - good brews and good food too.

What do we do in Cooperstown NY? Visit Ommegang! (Among other breweries.)

I used to live an hour and a half, or maybe two hours, from Brewery Ommegang. Every fall about this time I'd go there for their Waffles and Puppets event. It was a great show and also a chance to sample and buy some of their rare beers and one-offs, like cave-aged Hennipen, aged for a couple years or more deep inside Howe Caverns. Not sure if they continued that event after the sale to Duval.

Right now they aren’t doing tours of the brewery, and unfortunately when I was visiting guided tastings were suspended while a “meeting was taking place”. All the people that I had conversations with seemed pretty knowledgeable about the beer which I appreciated. I was prepared to purchase some of the beers I wouldn’t likely find near home, although a decent selection is always available.

Red Shed was a stone’s throw from Ommegang so we stopped in for one. A pretty good Hefe would have been better in a proper glass with a nice head, but I’m not THAT much of a beer snob. They don’t brew at that location everyone was friendly and i brought a small growler of their smoked porter all the way home to enjoy, since I was over my self imposed limit already and there would be more beer with dinner.

The bartender that was at Red Shed was attentive and shook every drop of water left behind from rinsing the glass and growler. LOL could you imagine a customer yelling about you left too much water? “I’m paying for BEER NOT WATER!”
