Well here we go again, the Cologne / Düsseldorf beers up against Munich. Today we have Früh Kölsch, an authentic 4.8% ABV Kölsch beer out of Cologne, Germany. Cologne has a lock on all things called “Kölsch” and apparently have some pretty well thought out methods of drinking it!

Full disclosure – Beer-Loving Daughter #1 has a soft part in her beer heart regarding Kölsch, it was one of the Euro brews that brought her to the table. Today she’s upped her game and is chugging Paulaner Pilsners with Reckless Abandon. Maybe that’s too sharp a description… certainly with Abandon!

You saw it coming though – what the heck is with these wussified little thin baby bottle-shaped glasses? The “Stange”???? Come on – get real! You ever have to manually clean these things? They come in 100 ml, 200 ml and 400 ml sizes – this is the big one, and it won’t even hold your typical 500 ml bottle of brew! Tall, skinny and weird…. What is this Star Trek? We’re drinking BEER here, and volumes of it! Not pondering 3D chess and Klingons!

Fellas and Gals… Munich’s gotcha beat again! Which would YOU rather have? Similar enough brews, Kölsches are true Ales, but lagered, use the same malts as a Munich Helles, and have about the same IBU’s. My preference is the Munich Helles, and I want a big Maßkrug full! Not these weak, wimpy, sissified, slender, little, anemic, miniscule and embarrassing glasses! Last week I re-named the pathetic Düsseldorf Becher Alt glass “The Dinkster.” Today I think I’m going the re-name The Stange. How about “The Dorkster?” The Dinkster and the Dorkster!!!

OK, how is the beer? On the Früh Kölsch, I’m picking up a touch of skunk, otherwise OK, nothing spectacular though. Hofbrauhaus had the good taste and forethought to ship their delicious HB Helles Lager in these nifty metal mini-kegs, thus ensuring fantastic, fresh and un-skunked Euro-brew…. Fantastic! Prost!

After a new battery and weird relay action, now it won't crank. I can hear the starter but sounds like gearing is grinding....oh boy, seized engine? 😞

Time to get wasted and video game to another world....

Taste better with a tequila floater! 😉

Not too likely a siezed engine. More likely a bad starter. If the engine were siezed (and the starter is good) the starter would engage properly with a thunk and the silence.

Funny you say that because that sounds also has been heard. Both symptoms are noticeable. I can't explain why one or the other happens.

Anyway, that went fast so downing x2 Margarita now. I like this brand. It's not very sweet.
