Had a head cold/allergies for 3days now. Can't taste a darn thing. But who's going to let that stop you. 16.5hrs and counting...
Hell yeah I'm cracking open a beer in AM for this once in a lifetime event. USA won't see another good chance for at least 25yrs. Planning for success!

Well I've finally had my first Sierra Nevada Hoptimum. Sadly I have to report that I found it a bit too sweet, combined with the dank hop aroma it kind of gave me odd medicinal vibes. Sadly just not my cup of tea, I guess.

Decided to try a homebrew English IPA, turned out a bit darker than expected (the lighting makes it look even worse) and I could use a bit more hops next time. Still turned out quite crisp and refreshing.
Celebrating eclipse day, vicariously. Watched it on TV. They went from TX to AR to Indy, Cleveland, Niagara Falls, etc.
It was overcast here, had 74% occlusion, not that we could see it. Made it kind of dark for a while, like just before a thunderstorm. Birds acting crazy, we had 2 of them slamming into our windows. Luckily they both were ok after a few minutes.
Next total solar will be Aug 2044, mainly in Montana. Hey, @grampamark, we'll be heading your way in 20 years to watch the eclipse and sample some of your homebrew.

Sampling the Quad. Bottling tomorrow. Came out low at 8.8% due to my boiling issue but esters are there. Finally a Barleywine recipe now and finishing the earlier one.

SA Old Fezzi. Malt, toffee, caramel, spices, very tasty. Last one until (hopefully) this fall.
Had 3 oz dark rum out of my rum infinity bottle and a cigar, La Floridita Gold watching the eclipse. Mostly disappointing, didn’t get darker than a rainy day.

Picking up Dubbel recipe to dump on the yeast cake of the Quad. This is pretty good!
Leftover from bottling imperial stout I’ve had aging on bourbon oak since Sept.
We lost our cat Ziggy right before Christmas to total kidney failure. I asked Chat GPT AI to make me a label with a Russian Blue cat wearing a Russian hat and holding a dark beer with the Kremlin in the background. I bottled these today, I will be printing the labels and labellng tomorrow. 8 months in the works. This is one of the best imperial stouts I’ve ever done. I call my RIS “Back in the USSR” after the Beatles song.

GPT is the best label maker ever!
Racked my sluggish APEX Labs San Diego APA into the dry hops keg today. Rather turbid for a 3-day crash, at least it seems to taste okay. Hard to tell with all that yeast in the way, but you can smell the hops from across the room. The yeast has that S04 bready thing going on. Hope that goes away. Fingers crossed.
The skies cleared up some, it warmed up to the 60s, and today's yardwork is done.
Time for a Fresh Squeezed IPA. Not a bad beer, but I'll be ready for the 12 pack to be done so I have an excuse to go back to the liquor store.
