Hi, not yeast cake... krausen... but it looks like oatmeal!

so, today I brewed an IPA and used a yeast starter for the first time... I followed the instructions from my LBHS, this means:

1 qt of water
1/2 cup of DME
yeast nutrient

Boil 20 minutes, add 1 packet of Wyeast 1056

I let it hang out on the counter for around 36 hrs (Friday night until Sunday afternoon) at or around 68 degrees.

I pitched the yeast starter into my well oxygenated wort and this is how it looks this evening. Mind you it's been in the carboy for 6 hours about..

This looks really weird and I'm not sure what to make of it...

is it normal?

Looks like cold break held up by the active fermentation to me. RDWHAHB

I've seen 1056 clump up quite a bit like that before, even early in fermentation - except if I remember correctly it is interacting with the beer more and floating around (up and down).
