My homebrewed Doppelbock gives me a weird hangover, regardless of how much/little I drink. It leaves me foggy headed all the next day until late afternoon.

Dehydration isn't the issue. I was in the Navy; I know all about rehydrating myself.

It's an extract brew. Wonderful taste, aroma, but a funny hangover my other brews or BMC don't give me.

What gives?

complex alcohols, fusels. it happens with high gravity beers and difficult fermentation (high temperatures), also commercial (chimay blue caused bad hangover for some years).
what was the fermentation temperature?

Ferm temps were in the upper 60's, lower 70s. Best I could do.

I went ahead yesterday and fined it with gelatin. Maybe that will strip something out while still leaving some character. Hate to do that, but I can't stand the thought of my favorite brew hurting me. LOL!

I don't think gelatins gonna solve that problem.

I have the same problem with my dopplebock. Delicious beer but I can't have any more than half a pint unless it's the only beer I have all night.

I was on the Jameson's and dopplebocks one night. I don't know what possessed me to think I could handle that.

My first batch was worse since I didn't control the temps as well but I fermented my next one at 12c and it's a beautiful beer with much less fusel alcohols.

OK. I'm just going to have to ferment lower and longer and then actually lager it. My head was better this Sunday as opposed to last Sunday, so maybe it's not just fusels, maybe some conjenors are dropping out.

*sigh* Good beer takes time. Wish Doctor Who would bring me some beer from last year.

Thanks!
