Dang, that sounds awesome, although now I'll probably have to dig up mods to allow quicksave (maybe) and fast travel, and then push myself to avoid using them as much as I can. I rarely use fast travel in Fallout games, but once you've been across the entire wasteland a half dozen times and you've got dinky little sidequests pinballing you back and forth, it's just a grind. As for quicksave, I like the idea of playing without regular saves, but I also like to have a backup for when things get bad... Also, try explaining to your irritated wife that yes, you are trying to stop playing but you just have to find a place to save your game. I still remember the day in tenth grade when I made my parents and some friends of the family wait an hour and a half to go out to dinner because of an endless FF7 story scene and the subsequent lack of a save point anywhere in the vicinity.
I like a good survival mode like this where the game picks up a bit of realism and challenge, but I guess I like it up to a certain extent and then I want to fall back on some of the basic comforts of video gaming.
