Cheesemaking is on my bucket list, for sure. I've done homemade mozzarella once (who hasn't, it's easy) but I would love to try my hand at making hard cheeses. Someday....
It's a so called farm house cheddar I'm making. It's basically the simplest hard cheese there is with lots of room for variations. It's just the first tryout, but I'll be making more.

Over the weekend I shaved six inches off the width of one my raised beds to increase walkway space.
Now that the snow's gone and the trails are drying up, we went for a short hike today at a nearby county park. Hiked just a couple miles, but it's one of the few places in our mostly flat area that actually has some elevation changes. The trail we hit was like a gentle rollercoaster, lots of up and down slopes. Mind you, the elevation changes are only 100' or so, but I'll take what I can get.

I got a typewriter, but it's having issues so I've spent a frustrating amount of time trying to figure it out. Think I have the wrong ribbon on it, but no clue.

Weekend recap - while I had the stuff out, I cast and coated 1k+ more .45 boolits.
In preparation for a 3 person relay marathon, I snuck out for an 8 mile run.
Used the cold but nice weather to haul out a half yard of concrete chunks to my newly inherited dam and split/hauled a cord of hard maple.
Brewing tangential- I finally swapped out the faucet in the brew area due to a faulty diverter valve. Good timing, as I had two carboys and 6 kegs stacked up and waiting for cleaning.
And ended up with 10 healthy chicks from the incubator.

I have three "Combat Gremlin" models for RC dogfighting competitions (used to have four, one turned into fragments from a head-on collision) which are strictly belly-landers as they do not have landing gear. That scores up the plastic film - the blue film seems especially prone to scoring - and eventually turns it into shreds as seen here:

Then I switched to another project: refinishing the front of a bathroom vanity I built around 35 years ago. Starting to strip them down to bare wood here.
Worked the top square cut in the ogees with a square scraper, then reloaded the sanding bars with fresh paper. The tough work of scraping and sanding the ogee curves starts tomorrow...

Working on replacing the clutch on my wife's 1999 saab 9-3 viggen, while I've got it apart I've been replacing other wear items. The shift linkage had plastic ball sockets that were completely worn out, obviously this is a part that's not easily found but I was able to make my own stainless ball sockets and rebuilt the existing shift linkage on the cheap. Here's a before and after.
I love fabrication, full stop. Electronics, metal cutting and welding, house wiring, plumbing, additions and modifications, custom furniture, modeling of all kinds...you name it, I love making things.
I hate finish work with a passion. I've never been able to "make it fun", it's always tedious AF, regardless of form.
I spent the afternoon stripping the ogee edges on these four laid-up hard maple panels, after scouring the local hardware and Big Box stores for something that would make sanding those darned ogees easier. Actually did find a sturdy mesh fabric based sanding sheet that could easily be formed into different diameter rolls that definitely cut the amount of time I spent in half or better vs wrapping regular tear-prone sandpaper around various forms.
Highly recommend this - a single small sheet handled all four panel edges and was still going strong.
Anyway, with a couple hours of sanding, this phase of the vanity refinishing project is complete.

Today I didn't have to work, had some downtime, so started looking around for something to do. At last count, between me and the husband (mostly me) we have six laptops in this house; his is a gaming laptop, mine is mainly now for use when I'm working from home and my pc monitors are in use by work laptop (which doesn't count in the main count). PC I built around christmas and is my main computer. The other laptops are hand-me-downs from various friends/family members, and my old MSI that I bought for almost $1k in 2010. It still runs, has a lot of files on it that I don't want to lose, but the HDD is dead slow and only has 8gb of ram. TL;DR, but I have a 1tb SSD via usb on my pc that I use for a backup drive; on a whim took it out of the case and tried it in the old MSI. It fits! Yay SATA!!! Right now running DiskGenius to migrate what's on the original MSI spinny drive to the SSD, then will see if it boots. Not out any $$ for it, and it's fun. If it does work, will get a new 512gb SSD from allmymoneyzgone and migrate it again so I have my backup drive again.

I got one online a few years back. I've investigated engine problems, checked in my walls, etc. Sometimes you just need a camera in the right spot...
Surprisingly inexpensive, they can be invaluable. Mine has a 16 foot long cable as well, might be the same OEM. I've used it in the house often to check out wall cavities when running wires and such before drilling bigger holes than the 1/4" for the 'scope, and a couple of times on my boat to inspect under-floor areas. Definitely recommend the semi-rigid wired versions because you can poke the camera ahead a hella long way...

You are speaking to me on a deeper level. I have so many projects that are 90%. Just a bit more work and it would be done, but I can't be bothered. I hate myself for it sometimes.
I trenched from the house to the shop to run power, water, and internet. Last july.
Today I finally closed it up. My boy watched with a great deal of concentration. When it was time to break for dinner, he insisted on sitting on the tractor. It was all my wife could do to get him off.

Our grandkids were the same wrt our lawn tractors here and our other house in the White Mountains. They'd make a beeline for our "Husky" or our "John Deere" and ride them like it was their jobs.

My wife caught me reading about coffee roasting. I was just reading. And i didn't know she was there until I hear "oh God are we going to save a bunch on coffee now too? Just like the beer?"
So that might be a new hobby soon. Good thing I changed pages before she saw me pricing out smokers.

Mine are still young (8 and 6). As soon as my youngest got out of diapers my wife started that "oh I miss having a baby" stuff.
We are both 42. I love my girls more than life itself, but there is no way in hell I'm making another one. She agrees now.

Well I don't count kids as other hobbies haha, but I'm 40 my wife is 38 our girls are 15 and 13, both to prior marriages. When we met we wanted another kid together, health got in the way of that as my wife had to have a hysterectomy.
OT hoping to get the rear main seal replaced and start putting the transmission back in this week, before I forget how to put it all back together haha.

We are much alike. I hate sanding, it's like a constant low level of nails on a chalkboard. I'll do it but I've always ruled out refinishing items as I know I would get started sanding and quit later! It has to be super high value importance or no go.
Yet Another "Hobby" of mine is driving and maintaining my 2000 Audi S4 sedan, one of my true loves. It has almost 90K miles on it and is totally stock/unmodified outside and in aside from the timing belt/water pump/idler pulley set replacements every 8 years. I'm bringing it out of its winter hibernation (it is a garage queen from roughly Thanksgiving through Easter) and decided to have all five oem wheels refurbished - trued, refinished inside and out, tires mounted and the assemblies then "High Sensitivity Balanced".
Need to wash the chalk off the tires but otherwise they're looking minty fresh on my 25 year old car

That Audi looks new. You keep it in good condition. Do you drive to just drive around your area, or do you go on trips?
It's pretty much mint inside and out, and mostly an around-the-general-vicinity car, but I do drive it ~150 miles to and from our NH house if the weather's nice (I use my Durango otherwise or if I have to haul anything up or back) and it does make it to some local "show off your ride" appearances during the summer.
Folks that recognize it will button-hole me in parking lots for a half-hour conversation. Happens all the time

You can get a decent smoker for a couple hundred bucks. I got the one from the big box place a ways back for around that a ways back - at the time it was Charbroil brand, now they have the same thing with an Oklahoma Joe branding. It's pretty good, and I'll do some good BBQ on that. (if I say so myself...) Obviously you can spend mucho buckage on one, but DIYers can build them out of pretty much anything. I think I saw one of the cooking / travel shows someone built one out of an old metal filing cabinet...My wife caught me reading about coffee roasting. I was just reading. For other hobbies I'm wworking on, I'm building that pedal kit I was talking about a ways back. Getting into the wiring of it, and finishing up the case. i have a couple coats of primer and a couple more of the paint on it, I plan to sand it back a bit over the weekend, one more coat of paint, then get the labels on and a couple coats of lacquer over the top.
Also I got a gift from the kiddo's hockey team - a mini stick with all their names engraved on it, along with a puck with the logo and roster.
I want to make a display plaque for them. I have a couple broken sticks I think I want to work in somehow; I'm more on the conceptualizing phase of this project right now.
My dad is starting to get his boat ready to go in the water, so I'm going to have to start spending a couple weekends here and there assisting. No fun when I work as often as not weekends, but he's not getting any younger; eventually I'm going to have to take over the whole thing. Also hoping in the next couple weeks to get the garden area ready for planting, and string up runners for my hops plants. I already have a few vines coming up - I have 5 rhizomes in, Newport and Cascade variatals. I think 3 are starting already, a couple sprouts on each.

Got a bunch of gardening stuff done. We’re starting asparagus so my oldest and I dropped that in, and today will put out the spring stuff hopefully. Potted up tomatoes/peppers and started squash, zucchini, Seminole pumpkins, and warm weather greens.
Also got a huge solid from the Mrs and she watched the kids while I went and trained. Half day class but was super stoked to get out there.
Any other mushroom hunters out there? Getting to be about that time around here. Gotten some precip and warm temps, checking some of my spots this weekend. Locally we have had terrible droughts recently so have gotten little to nothing last few years.
Also got a huge solid from the Mrs and she watched the kids while I went and trained. Half day class but was super stoked to get out there.

Back at the hotel, no service at the creek, perfect morning, water was ideal, air temp 50f and a little rainy. I killed it, donno how many I caught, put most back but the ones that swallowed the hook or wouldn't live, and a couple big rainbows, pic doesn't do the justice, the big 2 are 16 and 18 inchers. Not all mine, limit is 5, the 2 biggest were me though so I get bragging rights for the day haha
If I haven't homebrewed in almost 5 years, can I count it as one of my "other" hobbies since I'm brewing today? 
I suppose the other productive thing to be done today for the hobby of tasking and drinking wine is to re-organize the wine fridge, the wine cabinet, and the wine closet... And to build up a spreadsheet of what we have and where it all is...
In addition this weekend we're going to work on a little gardening... Planting some cilantro and hot peppers, to go with what we've already got (parsley/rosemary/oregano/green onion/chives/dill/thyme/basil)...
