Video consoles: What should I buy, I'm bored.

The last console I had was a playstation 2. Oldest daughter took it sureptitiously when she moved.

I'm getting pretty bored during shelter in place. I'd like to get a PS4 but am open to other platforms.

What do you have and why would I want it over something else? One thing is certain, they all seem to have gone up in price.

I should expand on that: I have books, they generally don't get outdated, the batteries don't go dead, and they don't have power cords. They are positively full of info and entertainment. SURE they are old fashioned - and archaic - but they are still pretty useful. And best of all if the internet crashes they will still function unlike clouds and memory sticks! Sure they don't go Pew Pew Pew and Blip blip blip , but they do hold excitement just the same (trust me on that) Best of all my kids will probably over look them when they are stealing my other entertainment devices. Now excuse me but my Once and Future King non-console entertainment device is calling. (BTW - T.H. White and barley wine go together -trust me!!!)

I'm quite happy with my PS4. I also like PC gaming. Still haven't found a decent mobile game.

I feel a bud! Did the powers that be in WA close the outdoors entirely? Gophers must be popping up or soon will be - it may not be a Palma match, but i got a lot of customers in your neck of the woods that can make hay with a small cal weapon and a patch of gophers

I haven't shot a match for years. Even owned my own reamers and headspace gauges so I could keep using the same sized brass when a new barrel went on.

I now want to do everything and can't. Funny how that works.

Anyhow a PS4 will help to pass the indoor time.

I have a PS4 that's gets some use nearly every day, even if it's just a 15 minute Fortnite match. All the systems have their strengths but PS4 was the best value for me.

PS4 here, too (MicroBrewed is my handle). I also have an old Atari and a complementary VCR, and the new mini systems: NES, SNES, and PlayStation (although the novelty wore off more-or-less...in fact, the PlayStation classic is still in its packaging inside the Amazon box, and I bought that well over a year ago, impulsively).

I have owned two Xbox's; however, I found them to run loud...and I don't enjoy the controllers either. I guess I am a PS fanboy though having grown up on video games (Atari through now).

A couple of years ago I bought a used ps3 on Craigslist. I’m not a big gamer but I bought that for our camper instead of buying a DVD player.

It’s been a great system for our uses and now it lives in our basement when not in camper. I paid $50 and it came w 2 controllers and about 10 games.

I bought a few kid friendly games for our son and he gets about a half hour per day on it.

Pretty good for $50 but Craigslist might not be an option for a few weeks.

The best deal I can find is a thin ps4 with fortnight and one controller for $300 shipped. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of bundle packages out there right now. Or is that a good package deal?

I can imagine that Sony keeps a tight MAP for anyone who sells their products.

Hey Bruce, fortnite is free. So I would say that’s not a great deal. Just a hunch. Others will correct.

LOL, i got a buddy that keeps trying to give me his old PS4....but i'm a hardcore PC gamer, maybe i should have him send it to you to get him off my back!

I have two Intellivisions and a ColecoVision. And a crapton of carts.
Once the kids learned we could have network fragfests (ala Doom) that was pretty much it for the consoles here.

Started with a Fairchild in the late 70's, upgraded to an Atari 2600 early 80's, got a Nintendo late 80's, then all computer based, then PS2, then we ended up with a Wi.

Still have the Wi, daughter #1 felt bad and returned it. I can't even remember if it has hdmi.

PS4 is still main option but part of me is thinking about building a desktop. I used to build a new one every 2 years but lately I'm old and just use the laptop with previous laptop on the desk hooked up to a monitor and keyboard.

All I'd have to do is educate myself on 6 month old tech for a few weeks, order the parts and assemble. That 6 month old tech is usually less than 50% the price of the latest and greatest.

reminds me of when projectors were still expensive.....i dropped $4k on my first one way back when, lol, 2002....now their cheaper then TVs.....(had to fill out forms and **** just to spend that much money)

I have a PS4 and the only thing I play is skyrim. Its a good system.

My kids played SKYRIM years ago and I hijacked their game because I grew up on D&D. Got the expansions for it, too. Had a 2600 Atari as a kid back in the late '70's and 80's. Hardware and graphics much better now and there's always a trade off with options. I went with gaming choices even if Sony always had better graphics. YMMV, but I've always preferred the HDMI input off a good PC to the widescreen TV and PC games ... like Diablo, for instance.
Online gaming sucks unless you have a good ISP and low latency connection.

Started gaming with an Intellivision II. I think (read: hope) my parents still have it in their garage somewhere. I love my consoles but they only see use when I'm deployed. I have a desktop and laptop rig that handle my current gaming needs. Tried getting into games on my iPad but few of them were worth my time (some were outstanding, though, like the Lifeline series). Currently playing Elder Scrolls Online on my desktop with a 27" monitor.

ETA: My PC is about three years old, running a 7700K CPU and 1080 Ti video card. Handles everything I throw at it and then some. Don't feel bad about getting last year's tech.
