Had a great trip to NYC. Stayed in Carroll Gardens Thursday night and hit Other Half, as well as Hometown BBQ. OH was fun. Too many hazy DIPAs, IMO, but we all enjoyed ourselves. Hometown was excellent. We all ordered way too much food and ate almost all of it.
Friday/Saturday were occupied by my buddy's wedding in the Hicksville/Melville area. Town Bagel is a pretty legit small bagel chain though. Got the requisite black & white cookie there. "Look to the cookie!"
Back to the city on Sunday afternoon. Hit Threes. Really cool space that I would definitely visit often if I lived in the area. Beer was solid. Then on to Manhattan. Stopped to meet friends for cocktails at Sel Rrose in Lower Manhattan. If you dig Oysters, hit their happy hour. $1.25-$1.50 each, which is cheap anywhere, let alone in Manhattan. Ate a ton of food around Greenwich Village, but no other remarkable beer stops that night. Almost died from eating too much.
Checked into our Alphabet City Airbnb Sunday night -- directly upstairs from ABC Beer Co. Awesome spot. Nice draft selection & lots of stuff to-go. Also had a really nice selection of meats & cheeses. Highly recommended if you're in the area.
Monday, we braved the cold (4 degrees with -15ish wind chills) & walked around most of the day. Hit Ess-a-bagel, then down to 1st & 1st so I could get my Seinfeld nerd picture at the nexus of the universe. Hit Prune for a bloody mary (excellent, and came with a Red Stripe sidecar) & light lunch of rock shrimp with brown buttered rice & pork cracklins (also excellent), then hit Crif Dogs for a couple awesome dogs & a can of Sip of Sunshine. Unfortunately, Please Don't Tell wasn't open yet.
Took a quick rest at the Airbnb, then headed west. Did some shopping & browsing, then stumbled across Arts and Crafts Beer Parlor. Nice selection there, but pretty spendy. Not surprising though. Walked through Washington Square park & my wife wanted coffee. The coffee place just happened to be across the street from the Half Pint. She got coffee and I popped into the bar only to find HF Susan on tap. Very nice! Cool spot too.
We then headed back toward the apartment, and on our way ran across the Hell's Angels clubhouse (see the no context pics thread), and Upright Citizens Brigade. We decided we'd go to their 7:30 show, but it was around 6:15, so we hopped over to Proletariat for a couple beers while we waited. That was probably my favorite beer bar of our trip. Atmosphere is awesome, beer selection is great, and the guy working (might have been the owner) was a cool dude.
Hit the UCB show, then Momofuku for dinner. All I can say is pork belly buns and roasted shiitake buns. Got. Damn. Also had a OH Green City on draft. Hit ABC Beer Co. again before calling it a day.
Walked up to Tomkins Square Bagels for breakfast Tuesday. Probably my favorite bagel spot of the trip. Then grabbed a $127 Uber to JFK - ******* ouch. Overall, great trip. Saw just a tiny fraction of the city, but had a ton of fun. NYC is so much better than I expected. We'll definitely return soon. Preferably when the weather is slightly warmer.
Thanks for the tips, everyone!
