Don't think it takes a chemist to realize that not all the reported infections had cocoa nibs in them...
Ascribing it to cacao nibs strikes me as the sort of thing the Bruery did while trying to pin down their issues, and that's obviously not a compliment.

Considering it's just messageboard chatter, I wouldn't put too much stock in it, but - in spite of my belief that Modern Times will overcome their issues more quickly than the Bruery did - I'd be lying if I said I wasn't somewhat concerned by the fact that they're working on two new facilities, doubling the size of the club, and introducing a ton of new beers/variants all in the span of a year.

A good amount of those new beers were seen at the anniversary party sessions. Of course now they will be scaled up and bottled instead of those small'ish batches like before. The idea that they are going to separate their wild ales in the Anaheim location will further increase my confidence that infection issues may be a thing of the past, of course this is still in the works and won't be seen as effective immediately.

As for the jab at it doesn't take a chemist, I am only going with issues I have experienced first hand. Anyone can claim a beer is infected...hell...ppl are claiming that V018 is infected, but I take it with a grain of salt unless I experience it myself. The ones I have experienced all contained cacao nibs. Since that adjunct is almost completely removed my confidence levels have drastically increased in that MT has found a potential cause of their past issues.

Edit: And I sit here drinking a NOLA MP leveling a duelist in PoE I just realized that there is no NOLA on the proposed list for next year, unless it falls into one of the "MP variants" section, which it likely won't since those are all barrel-aged of some sort. Sad again....

All I'm hearing here is "head in sand, head in sand, head in sand". But it's your money and investment, so justify as you see fit.

I like the fact that they're separating the wild ales, but the distance makes it effectively two separate breweries. Assuming no learning curve is more generous than I'm willing to be.

Edit: I'm not even against your decision to renew, if I were closer I most likely would myself. But to say that the infection issues don't exist if you haven't directly experienced them is silly at best.

Ignorance is bliss. I find that their beer club is probably one of the better run ones that I have been a part of. This helps my decision. Also I haven't bought myself a xmas present yet. =P

I don't think anyone can justify a "beer membership" being a good investment, ha.
I get your point, but if you agree to the assumption that I'm going to consume X quantity of craft beer, then memberships reduce the portion of X that I spend at a liquor store or bar. So an investment of sorts.

Similarly, by putting money up front, you're committing to the brewery releasing a number of beers that you feel are worth the initial costs. In that sense, it's also an investment. Your return is good beer with minimal hassle, versus money appreciation.

I made my comment in jest. Being said, all your points are valid.

Out for next year. I'm not local, which colors my perspective, but especially with them doubling the club size, there's no real incentive for me to go through the hassle to stay. Even this year, I tried almost everything included off of other peoples' bottles/trades before I was able to pick up mine.

I'm also not convinced they're going to solve the issues that popped up with the beer this year. Two new locations means a lot of $$ and focus are going toward opening those, not shoring up the major QC issues that were seen this year.

I'll second that 5 dark sours out of 10 beers is extremely underwhelming.

Kind of where I am too. If I was still local or making it back home more often it'd probably tip the scale towards renewing, but as is I'm leaning the other way. Plus with my Casey membership and a cellar full of stouts (and other sours), I shouldn't have to worry about a lack of beer for awhile. Other than FOMO but I can get over that quick. I'm sure that whatever I can get for public releases that overlap with when I'm in town will keep me happy too.

ISO that BA Maple Syrup if they release that though...

Is Casey keeping that membership going? I thought I read somewhere that it was going the way of the dodo

Subtle detail I noticed as I was renewing - the address on the sale is for The Fortress of Raditude which appears to be their new warehouse that they teased in the announcement of the Caffeination Fest a couple weeks ago. Looks like it has quite a bit more space, both inside and in the parking lot.

IN! I noticed the address change as well. They need a ton more space if they are doubling the league and everyone gets a plus one for the party.

I'm wondering if they're going to do two sessions this year, or just cram us in shoulder to shoulder.

If it is being held there, the size can hold us all with our +1s.

I guess w/ the new spot there is room for all?
Missed the welcome partry last year. 90% sure im headed down for this one.

Yay! Welcome back.

With a conservative no show rate, the place is big enough for a thousand plus people? I'm hoping for two sessions so I'm not spending more time in a line than i am actually drinking.

Will that be for Coffee subscribers only? Or will anyone will be able to buy a ticket?

It will be a public event, Jacob has said in the past he wants to work towards having a big fest every quarter (roughly every quarter, anyway). They already have Dankness and Funk, this will be the third to join the series. I don't recall if the fourth fest has been discussed in public yet but the plan is for it to debut this year as well.

League wasn't an instant sell out. Spots still available. Did they get a little aggressive in doubling the size of the league? I wonder what the final number of current league members didn't renew was.

I am of the opinion they did. 800 people is A LOT for a no proxy, no shipping, $400 membership IMO.

I bet if they would've allowed proxies and/or shipping, it would've sold out much quicker.

Personally, I'm excited for the upcoming year.

Unfortunately, a couple of the BA MP's had reports of infections, but I thought the Spanish Brandy BA MP, BA MP Nola, Rum BA MP Mexican Chocolate, and Rum BA MP with coconut and vanilla were amazing. Also, the Devil's Teeth line really surprised me, to the point I'm more excited about the DT offerings coming up than the MP.

Plus, some nice sounding wild ales coming up, including Palace of Cracked Skulls and Rampart Junction.

I think this will be a great year for MT and the League, looking forward to it!
