a very simple electrical question - i hope.

i thought i could brew any where i wanted if i took my 100 ft orange homedepot extenson cord and plugged my 110 volt AIO into it. i was wrong ( hbt thread - DOnt do that!)

beer was definately made but after mashing and boiling for over 2 hours the AIO plug is now one with the cord. they are NOT coming apart . - and likely never will.

can i just cut the plug off and attach this:

thanks in advance

You'll need to replace the jack on the extension cord too, I guess, probably with a similar female companion.

I reckon your AIO tries to pull 15 Amps (for delivering 1800W).
Is the gauge of that 100' cord suitable for that?

@fluketamer : You didn't mention which AIO you are using, or what its rated power is.

idk i bought it a long time ago but i am guessing not since it melted the two together

Gauge of the cord isn't necessarily related to the plug melting.

The plug melting is more likely due to the cheap contacts in the typical extension cord/molded plug loosening up over repeated uses. The looser contact causes higher resistance then with the current results in localized heating. If enough I2R loss it gets hot enough to melt.

The gauge of the cable may be imprinted into the jacket or maybe on a decal/tag if still present.

If not, and you have a way to measure, might be able to determine gauge when you cut off the end and get the insulation stripped back.

thanks but i am not planning to use the cord again i will only plug my aio into the outlet from now on.
If you ever want to use an extension cord again, I wouldn't use anything less than 12AWG if it is more than 25 ft long. And it might be a good idea to replace any molded plug/receptacle with better quality ones.
