Hi folks,

I'm brewing an irish red, and the recipe calls for 6oz of roasted barley 300L. My LHBS only has 500L, and they suggested using the 500L and taking 3/5 of what the recipe calls for (approx. 3.6oz). What are your thoughts/suggestions on the effect of this substitution on my beer?

That's probably how I would start. I'd probably round up to 4 oz. You're really using it more for color than anything else, and a quarter pound of 500L roasted barley sounds just about right for an Irish Red.
