Stir plate cant get magnet to turn stick

Building a stir plate attached two real earth magnets and is extremely close to jar base , won't grab stir stick though, I'm assuming the magnets just aren't strong enough , they should be they cost enough , is there a certain strength that u need to be looking for?

Does it throw the bar to the edge of the container? I use these Radio Shack and they work great..

I'm building one too but haven't finished. Could it be the way your poles face on the magnets?

your stir bar has a north and south pole just as the magnets have a north and south.. make sure you have the magnets attached to your fan with opposite poles up. that way they grab each end of the stir bar.
