I purchased a stir starter today and an erlenmeyer flask today to make a starter with. I had it spinning nicely before I added the yeast to the flask. I picked up the flask and put yeast in and now I can't get the stir bar to stay center. Has anyone ever had this issue? Also does anyone have a solution?

Thanks

The only time i have run in to this issue is due to spinning too fast. I have found a nice consistent swirl works just as well and not worrying about getting that downward funnel action.

+1 try turning down the speed until you get a nice swirl, but not a tornado and see if that takes care of the problem!

Some flasks do better than others. Not all flasks are created equal.
I had a terrible time getting the bar to stay spinning and kept finding it kicked off to the side recently and consequently the cell numbers were low as a result.
It is quite amazing what a difference the stir plates make in cell growth.
I have better luck with the small bars even in bigger flasks FWIW.
