Made a 1 qt starter yesterday using Wyeast smack pack but after 24 hours, no activity. Got a little foam after 9 or 10 hours but then nothing. Used 3 oz DME in a qt of water, boiled, cooled it and dumped in contents of the pack after it expanded (slightly) for 4 or 5 hours. The smack pack has an April, 2021 "use by" date. Any thoughts on possible reasons for this poor performance?

You won’t get much activity from a starter. You pretty much have to just trust the process
