Hi,

I am trying to make a starter for tomorrow's brew day but forgot the extract. Currently mashing 3L of water and a few cups of 2-row, carapils at 150.

How long do I need to steep this for in order to get enough fermentables for my 1056 packet??

At least an hour to be sure it's converted. If u have iodophor you can starch test. Take a small amount of the wort and put a drop of iodophor in, if it turns black it needs more time if it says the same color it is done (do not put the iodophor in the wort)

Mash as long as you would for beer, because the starter wort should be the same as beer (made with all grain or DME).
Some thoughts: carapils isn't needed in a starter, and the starter gravity should be in the 1.030-1.040 range.
