Taking my first crack at a lager tomorrow. I've browsed several recipes for a Munich Helles, and while I stuck pretty close to style, I made my 5 gallon recipe my own.

I'll be doing around 8 # of pilsner, 1#Vienna, .5#munich and .5# carapils.
S-23 saflager
One issue is my one pound delivery of Hallertau was supposed to arrive today but didn't, due to an ice storm we're having. So all I have that comes close is German Select. I have one ounce and I'll use that at 60 min. I guess I won't be having a 10min addition as I wanted but oh well. Should come out pretty good.

I'll call it "Highway to Helles"

Just put a 1.066 milk stout into its waterbath 5 min ago. This thing is dark, much darker than brewer's friend said it would be. Tastes pretty good despite my first ever boil over in about three years of brewing.

ps...don't make sandwiches and try to watch the thermometer and then try to dump in hops...LOL.

So... Missed your 15 minute mustard addition?

I just brewed my first batch of beer... I am a little bit frightened. It is a ESB. Using Mt Hood hops. In my primary now... get working yeast!

LOL...don't be frightened. Congrats :mug:

However you will be an over eager yeastie dad and probably bug everyone with questions about if everything is normal. :D

Brewed up a PM Amber Bock with friends yesterday.

Things I realized in yesterdays brew session.
One of my friends seems to enjoy the craft brew sampling more than the rest of the process. And seems to get us all started sampling them before we even turn on the heat.
I definitely seem to enjoy AG far more than PM, and have the process down much more smoothly. Maybe this is due to not having done a PM brew in years.
I forgot the beautiful thing about doing indoor brews. My house still smells amazing today.
My upstairs glass top stove is weak and will not boil any real amount of liquid, had to bring it downstairs to my ancient, I-dont-think-it-has-any-kind-of-thermostat, coil stove to get the boil done. And boy did it get the job done. Way too much boiloff.
9 adults, 4 children, and one dog is way too many for me to keep track of in my house during a brew day. That was 3 co-brewers, 2 wives, 4 children between them, and then the 3 who are going to rent rooms in my house. My house is... kinda trashed right now.
I think I may have converted one newbie brewer and may have someone to trade spent grains for eggs, etc with. Of course he lives way the heck away from me, but he is welcome to them.

Congrats and welcome to the forum! :mug:

Don't be scared, the yeast are your friends. Beer really wants to be made, it will turn out fine. Just be patient and don't rush things, it will work out great in the end.:)

Windy here on the east coast today it appears. I would go out and brew, (mild 45) but too much stuff blows off my trees even in winter when it's windy. Got a stick and 3 leaves in my beer last time. (Got them out, beer was fine) Need to clean out one of my storage sheds, since I don't have a garage.

Brewing a saaz Vienna ale with carafa 2 to make it the right color even tho Vienna supposed to be darker without roasted flavour. And a lager instead of an ale. And probably not saaz hops. So what would this beer style be? No idea but I'm sure it will be tasty

Edit: said beer is now cooling and I can't decide between us05 or s04

Brewing Jim's Oatmeal Stout (again!) and using 1450 this time. Should be ready in time to bring it to a party in March.

I'm going to be kegging my dunkel tomorrow. It's going to be interesting to see how it tastes... I had to change my bittering hops because the ones that came with the kit disappeared when I was steeping the specialty grains. The ones that came with the kit were like 2% AA, and I used Mt. Hood which is like 10% AA, so I suspect it's going to be very hoppy. :)

Going to get started with homebrewing again this weekend.

Starting with a 1-gallon kit Bruxelles Blonde from Brooklyn Brew Shop to get my feet wet again. Never brewed a Belgian ale before so this should be fun.

BIAB method as my pots & space in the apartment are limited.

Looks like I'm all set to brew my next IPA this weekend.

Red Zombie Red IPA
OG: 1.068
FG: 1.013
2-row, Munich, CaraRed, Carapils
Amarillo, Citra, Cascade, Nugget, Galena
