Damn, we are getting huge snow flakes and it's already sticking to the ground. Prediction is 5 centimetres. The streets were already swept and washed. Good thing the apple trees didn't open their blossoms yet, would have been a disaster.

Nice coating of ice this morning. Had to rinse the windshields down with a gallon of warm water before going to work. Supposed to warm up to 45 today.

Brewing tonight, but probably in the kitchen. I'm using my electric boil kettle for maple syrup.

Modern day meteorology kills me. Last night I am watching and they are detailing "corridors" and "swaths" and "intensity" and "pinpoint risk" regarding the coming potential of hail, storms, and tornados.

And yet, the only time they got snowcover predictions right over winter was when it was snowing.

Its a great job though.. You get paid to be wrong... always. All you have to say is "chance"... "well folks today we have a pressure system moving and pushing in some cold weather.. there is a 10% chance of snow" next day "oh gee I guess we got 6 inches of snow last night.. I was really right about that chance, today a 50%chance of rain.. cause that way I can't be wrong"

The spring peepers are gettin with it tonite. They are enjoying themselves and so am I.I think I survived .They might get their little frog nuts froze off this weekend though.

Luckily, we've had above feeling temps for the last 36 hours straight, which has almost cleared the roof and the part of the yard I kept clear all winter is all earth now! It's already 37 at 7.15 am so I have hopes for today bring another good day for melting. I hope spring is here to stay.

Indeed, the pine tree state still has a bit of thawing to do. I'm in the Saco area and it got to 40 yesterday!
Hoping to have my SN Torpedo clone bottled by the end of March.

It snowed for 3 hrs straight day before yesterday, didn't stick, but snowed pretty hard for a while. Supposed to hit 60*F today. My haskap bushes are covered in flower buds, I just hope there are some pollinators of some sort to get the job done before those flowers fall off; if so it should be a good crop this year.
Regards, GF.

We just got another 10" over the last 2 days here in the Northern Adirondacks.

All seriousness aside is there a dislike button?

Snow flurries in West TN today at ~40 degrees. Thermometer says 43...but I think it was still adjusting.

The science isn't much more accurate than it was 40 years ago.

Severe weather Prediction (hurricanes/floods/tornadoes/Winter Storms etc...) is Light Years ahead of where it was 40 years ago. Daily temperature forecasts and benign weather conditions/forecasts haven't improved as much because that hasn't been a critical point of focus for advancement in the science.

There is still a Ton we don't understand about Atmospheric Science, but we are getting better. I have been a (degreed and practicing) meteorologist since 1999.

Seems to me that it's still mostly probability and statistics as opposed to actual atmospheric analysis and computational fluid dynamics.

There is a lot of computer modeling taking care of the computational fluid dynamics. The problem is, the modeling is horrible...especially in dynamic weather pattern, when good modeling is needed the most. That is when less experienced meteorologists fall into "the trap". Blindly following weather models is a really bad idea. Pattern recognition is probably the most important aspect to weather forecasting.

Admittedly it is a humbling profession. Just when you think you have her figured out, Mother Nature throws you a curve ball.(like snow at 40 degrees see my post above) As for the criticism, it comes with the territory. I tell all of our interns and Journeyman Forecasters, if you take it personally, you are going to have a miserable career.

So in other words they just do what Hillary(?) did on the Fresh Prince of Bel-air and watch the weather forcasts from a couple timezones east so that you know how it is going to be in 4 hours?

I'm going to have to ask you not to reference that show here on HBT...;)

No forecast of snow at all, then bam - started snowing last night, snowing heavily and now they are saying that it will snow for the entire week. WTF? We already had all snow melted and were sitting in the yard frying pancakes two weeks ago.

It's supposed to snow & patchy light rain on my birthday tomorrow. Dammit. Happens every year now. Gotta freeze my arse off getting the engine cleaned out for e-check by tomorrow too.

Around 55 today. Got some yard work done .It's actually really dry right now ,but gonna rain soon.Supposed to be 70 sometime this week.I'll take it.
