Might I suggest the $20 24-pack of Sam Adams (in the interest of obtaining refillable bottles of course) from Costco

6 beers/ 4 of each
Winter Lager
Black Lager
Boston Lager
Cranberry Lambic
Christmas Ale
Porter

Quite tasty (tried everything except the Black Lager so far) and cheap.

The Cranberry "Lambic" really isn't a lambic from what I've read. I've never tried it, though, I'm not too big on fruit beers.

My only issue with the Sam Adams bottles is that the "Sam Adams" signature is embossed in the glass - only an issue if you mind other folks' names on your beer!

Yeah the Cranberry Lambic is more of a cranberry pale ale. I thought the Old Fezziwig Ale was terrible last time I bought this case. Never had the porter, I might have to check it out just for that.

I was severely dissapointed when I tried the black lager - I'm a fan of Kostritzer, Spaten dark lager, Warsteiner Dunkel, 1554 ale, and all the dark Czech lagers I had in Prague, but its a toss-up whether I'd take a Bud Light or a Sam Adams black lager. Maybe I got a bad batch, but don't get your hopes up :(

Wow! You and I have very similar tastes! I thought the Krossdresser was pretty good. Spaten Optimator is my favorite beer around the house. Warsteiner Dunkel used to be my favorite beer at my favorite german restaurant (until they got Optimator on tap).

I haven't tried 1554 though. I'll have to check it out. My recommendation to you is to find Goose Island's Bourbon County Stout. It's pricey ($20 for a 4pack), but probably well worth it, given your preferences above.

Hmm, I LOVE the Black Lager. The Lambic is not bad(just had a taste of SWMBO's), the Holiday Porter is good, nothing special. Haven't tried the Fezziwig's yet.
The first Winter lager I tried tasted pretty rough, I remember liking it more last time I tried it. Maybe a bad one, or maybe I had drank more last time.

I tried this pack last year. I liked everything except the Ole Fezziwig, which was kind of meh, and I hated the Cranberry. But then, I'm not huge on fruit beers.

My favorite was the winter lager... of which I bought a 12 pack on Friday.

I picked up the 12 pack, and im pretty dissappointed. The lambic was pretty awful, and that is one of the reasons i bought it. I dont see why the boston lager made it into the seasonal pack. The porter is pretty good, and the others are drinkable but not spectacular.

I really liked new belgiums 2* below a while ago.

I really liked the Holiday Porter and Winter Lager. Not a big fan of the Black Lager, like most of you folks. The Fezziwig is o.k., IMO. The Cranberry "Lambic" is just weird. It kind of creeped me out. Of course, the Boston Lager is something you can't go wrong with.

And, when it comes to removing labels from bottles, I haven't found a better bottle than Sam Adams. I swear they chose the adhesive for the labels with homebrewers in mind!

I bought that pack last year, only to remember that I didn't like it when I bought it the year before. They're all drinkable, but none are good enough to buy a six-pack of.

This year I went out and bought a 1/6 keg of Winter Lager (upgraded to the keg-erator) and remembered that I didn't like it 2 years running. I promise this is the last time.

I'm sticking with Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale from now on.

I really enjoyed most of this case. The cranberry was rather hard to drink. The Winter and Boston Lager are, IMO, quite excellent. I really like the Fezziwig as well...besides, I think the name is fun. ;)

I'd really like to taste the Boston Ale again. I believe it was included in the Summer pack.

I also don't like that SA is made onto the bottle. OTOH, the bottles seem to be made a bit thicker than many other brands.

I always get this just for the Old Fezziwig! I love it and the Black Lager. Winter Lager ain't bad, either. But I can find it on tap anywhere this time of year.

OTOH, I won't touch the Cranberry 'Ale'. I still have two bottles from last year that I can't give away. And the Holiday Porter is just not good. Last year it had a slight diacetyl taste and I thought maybe it was just an anomoly with those two bottles. Had it again this year and it's no anomoly.

If I want a good porter, I'll stick with Great Lakes' Edmund Fitzgerald - which I'm having a hard time finding on the shelves lately!

Agreed on the Emund Fitzgerald (never had Sam Adam's yet), if you're having trouble finding the Edmund Fitzgerald, try Summit Great Northern Porter, it's a good one.

I don't think the Holiday Porter is a bad beer, but it isn't a very good Porter. Does that make sense?
I guess if I blind taste tested it I would say 'not bad, what is it? A porter? No, what is it really?'

Agreed; I like it, too. But I still think Eddie Fitz takes first prize!:)

Ahhh you're making me do it...

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy.

With a load of iron ore - 26,000 tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty
That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early

The ship was the pride of the American side
Coming back from some mill in Wisconson
As the big freighters go it was bigger than most
With a crew and the Captain well seasoned.

Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for Cleveland
And later that night when the ships bell rang
Could it be the North Wind they'd been feeling.

The wind in the wires made a tattletale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the Captain did, too,
T'was the witch of November come stealing.

The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the gales of November came slashing
When afternoon came it was freezing rain
In the face of a hurricane West Wind

When supper time came the old cook came on deck
Saying fellows it's too rough to feed ya
At 7PM a main hatchway caved in
He said fellas it's been good to know ya.

The Captain wired in he had water coming in
And the good ship and crew was in peril
And later that night when his lights went out of sight
Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the words turn the minutes to hours
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd fifteen more miles behind her.

They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.

Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
In the ruins of her ice water mansion
Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams,
The islands and bays are for sportsmen.

And farther below Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
With the gales of November remembered.

In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed
In the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral
The church bell chimed, 'til it rang 29 times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald.

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they say, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.
