You can darken the room and set a flashlight on the lid aiming down. You can see the kraeusen ring that way, without exposing the beer to air.
Did this, and sure enough, the yeast is working away. Must not have something sealed up the tightest.
Curious, what is the best room temp to be fermenting at? My basement is around 60-62 degrees, or I have a main floor bathroom that was added onto my house years before I bought it, that heats like ****. That room is usually 65-68, depending on if the dryer is running. Given, the dryer is a ways away from where the beer is, but I'm sure it fluctuates the temp in the room a bit when it's running.
