I am building a ekettle and want to put the rtd in a 1/2" SS T. I was looking at Kal's design and he said this

"the Hot Liquor Tank & Mash Lauter Tun use a stainless steel liquid tight RTD sensor with 1/4" NPT thread, 2” long probe, and detachable connector. An NPT (tapered) thread is used as the probe tip screws into a 1/2" stainless steel "T" fitting."

So a 1/4" NPT threads into a 1/2" SS T? Why does this seem wrong to me?

Next question is length. Will a 2" rtd fit in both orientations of the T? If I went with a 1.5" will that work in both ways or will it be too short?

You need an adapter like this one.

Okay what length do I need? Keep in mind this will be mounted in a SS "T" just not sure what is the best length and orientation in the T. I will be recirculating using a eBIAB and pump so I dont know if it is better to go in the vertical part of the T or the horizontal potion

Because of turbulence caused by the T, any length should be fine as long as it does not stub into the opposite wall. The T fitting should be mounted so that the air in the T self purges - I'd run the T cross bar straight up & down and have the sensor come in from the side.

Follow the link!

Im confused. Jammin I saw your link for the bushing, which answers the part of my question about 1/4" vs 1/2" threads. thanks for that. The next question was about length of the probe and orientation of the T. Mux said "follow the link" which I do not see a link posted by him. Am i missing something?

Edit: I am an idiot, I just passed right over Mux's link like 4 times. Thank you both for the help!
