Hello,
I'm trying to design a clone of Fernie's Big Caboose Red Ale, mostly just out of curiosity/education. I love this beer, and since they list the ingredients on the site (thanks!), I thought it would be cool to see how it all comes together.

https://www.ferniebrewing.com/craft-beer/big-caboose-red-ale

Style: Red Ale
Malt: 2 Row Pale, Munich, Carapils, Carastan 30-37, Chocolate, Crystal 70-80, Melanoidin, Roast
Hops: Warrior, Willamette, Perle
ALC: 5%
IBU: 25

After putting all of the ingredients in Beersmith, I realise that I have no idea what I'm doing. After playing around with some of the numbers, sure, it LOOKS like a red ale, but will it actually taste decent?

If anyone has some advice on how to balance the numbers, I'd be happy to take it.

Thanks!

Proportions and yeast choice make a big difference.
Take a shot at contact e-mailing the brewers and explain what you're up to. Weirder things have happened, and you never know, they may be more than happy to give out a couple hints on the recipe.
