Our Dishwasher just started leaking awhile back, and it's quite old, probably 15 years old. We are buying a new one. When I pulled the old one out, there is a 4 - 4 1/2 foot SS Braided Hose, that the hot water runs through connected to it. The new dishwashers have changed the end size, so I have to buy a new hose.

I'm getting ready to build a 50 quart mash tun, and was going to use a SS Braided Hose for it, would you use this? I'm guessing it's 15 years old, but looks like it's in good shape still. Would you cut the ends off, remove the inside, then soak it in some PBW, sanitize it, then hook it up into the mash tun and start using it?

What are your thoughts?

Probably not. Not that I think it's a huge deal because of contact time but that type of hose material probably isn't "food grade" per se.

Remove the inside vinyl tubing and you'll have a great SS braid filter.

Just make sure you clean it well first and check the exterior for any pitting, rust, oxidation that may have occurred over time.

I think if it is stainless steel, it is "food grade". I say use it!

I don't see any visible damage on the outside at all. I am getting some PBW and StarSan today, so was thinking once I remove the inside, soaking it in PBW for a couple hours, rinse it, then StarSan for a little bit after that.

So you're going to use just the stainless steel outer braid with no liner, as a filter, like FourSeasonAngler mentioned?

I have used a SS Braided Hose in my 5G Igloo Cooler for 3 All Grain Mashes with no issues at all. I plan on removing the ends, pushing the liner out, soaking this in PBW for a few hours, then star san, then let it dry. I also am thinking about finding some SS Wire, wrapping that around a thing piece of wood same length of the wire, and then putting that on the inside of it. I will then hook this up to 2 barbs on the inside of my 50 quart cooler.
